Anyone with any ideas on how I should lose about five pounds by Septemeber 15? That is next Saturday, not this coming but the next. I want to make weight for the 165lbs class. Any ideas on how I should try to lose it? Carb deplete or what? Should I go ahead and start this week. I started cutting carbs two days ago at least enough to keep me from gaining any more and I may even lose a couple of pounds. What do you guys think the best route is?

Cutting five pounds can be done in under a week. I would start by weighing yourself first thing in the morning. That will give you a better idea of what you weigh...you body puts on water as the day goes by. If you just knocked out all carbs for a day or two you could easily make weight. Then rehydrate before you meet. Seriously 5 pounds is a walk in the park. Most lifter train at 10-15 pounds above thier respective classes. In this situation it is little more tricky. The trick though, is to lose it as fast as you can and put it back on just as fast. Is it the healthiest approach probably not...but it is the most effective.

I agree with Hannibal. The tough part is if you do not hold a lot of body weight. 5 pounds to a tight 148 is a ton, but a super losses that much walking to the weigh in. I have cut 10 pounds when I was lighter in one night (not recommended. Sucked big time).

I have found that cutting weight by not eating to much really effects my strength. What works perfect for me is being about 4-6 pounds heavy and then hitting the sauna the day of weigh in. Usually about 30-60 mins works. Take a quick cool/cold shower and go weigh in. I also bring my own scale to the sauna to make sure I can make weight. Bring a bottle of water to weigh in so that as soon as you make weight you can start hydrating yourself again. THEN GO EAT! The sauna also helps me sleep the night before the meet. I compete in feds that do weigh ins the day before the meet. If I had to weigh in the day of the meet I would look more into a high protein diet a week or two out.

I am losing 15lbs in a little over 48 hrs. Already started yesterday and am down 8lbs since yesterday. No carbs high protein. Exlax, and water pills. I will cut out water tonight and eat nothing after 700 pm. I should be around 235 by the time the meet rolls around. But carb depleting works. Take effadrine, and drink lots of water to flush out your rest. Then in the evening take a laxative. After weigh ins carb like crazy. Thats my way. I know its not th ebest but i dont like long term weight loss. I want my weigh t back when i lift. Just my 2 cents.
 
I do what powerlifter jay does excpet I will not use a laxative -- no need to mess up a good squat suit:) I use aldactone if I can get it. If it is not available then I have used lasix -- it's very rough but if you are careful and have a full 24 hours between liftig and weigh in then it's ok. 5lbs shouldn't require anything real drastic though. Drink a shitload of h20 m-w, then on thurs just when you are thirsty, friday -- none. cut back on your carbs from mon till weigh in. Then go out and eat all the crap you can get your hands on. In this situation you really need caloires and carbs, so go and eat crap -- skinned chicken breasts and broccoli will not cut it.
