Farmer walks..

How many of you guys throw this exercise in on a leg day?

I've never done them, but I thought I wouldn't mind hitting them one day, but before I do them, I have 2 questions.

One- Do you guys actually walk a certain length? My gym's size is limited so I'm going to have to stand in one little area.

Two- What kind of weight/reps/sets?

I just want a different feel for a leg exercise. I heard they work well.

Thanks

ya. I do them.. I walk in a 50' circle in my basement and carry about 110# in each hand for 100 to 150 feet. You carry for distance not reps/sets.. btw. strongman comp use about 220 to 300# in each hand! ouch!...

Variation is key...make it fun...switch it up OFTEN!!!

They work your entire body...especially if you can go heavy enough...

They aren't really a primary leg exercise, although your legs definitely feel like they were worked when you are finished. I would do them on back/bi day or possibly on shoulders. Plus, the db's are actually a lot harder to do the actual walking with because the weight is so compact. With the farmer's walk implements, the weight is distributed better, so it doesn't put nearly as much pressure on your grip.

Try them, though...they are fun!
