exercizes to replace military press

I'm about half way through taking a week off from training and my shoulder is healing nicely. I want to continue working shoulders but i think I need to wait longer before I start military pressing again. I need some exercises that can sufficiently work my shoulders without putting too much strain on my shoulder joint/rotator cuffs. Is there such an exercise?

Rest it.

The things that won't cause damage through load can cause damage through repetitive motion over the joint surface.

Just let it heal.

What happened to your shoulder?

Depending on what your injury is, a solution may be something simple like just doing militaries on the smith machine(or maybe HS) so you can alter your grip and or angle. Try light mid range partials on the smith to start.

There is really no replacement for militaries, so just play around with angles, grips, ranges, etc.

Just go light. Shoulder injuries are nothing to fuck with.

Good luck:)

I've tried smith machine military presses, they just dont feel right. It feels like I'm working my upper chest more than my delts.

I dont really know what I did to my shoulder, still need to get an xray done. I dont think it's anything too serious, I just get a really sharp pain in my left shoulder any time I do military presses or lat raises. I'm not sure if i'm just using too much weight or what, I havnt gone over 95 lbs. I think I'll give my shoulder another 2-3 weeks before I go back to military presses and then start with just the bar and work up from there.

If i did a dumb bell military press with a hammer grip, would this work my delts as well as a normal military press?? I've noticed when I use a hammer grip, theres alot less stress put on my shoulder joint.

thanks for the advice :)

Are you doing any rotator cuff work? I had terrible pain in my shoulders when benching BB style. So bad, I gave up barbell benching for quite a while. Rotator cuff work done three times a week has made a HUGE difference for me. No pain at all now. (Also changed to PL style bench.)

If you aren't doing cuff work, you need to start. Do it now, light, as part of your rehab. Then keep doing it.:)

Good luck,

do some rotator cuff work. I always do light rotator cuff work , even on non-shoulder days. Front raises, and side lateral raises really help keep the muscle endured.

how do you train your rotator cuffs? Just side and front raises w/ light weight? Are you supposed to progress in weight?

Light Arnold presses may help the healing process as well.

Or you can always use the old gym code........whatever the problem is.......just add a few sets of squats........the problem will either be solved or you will be in so much pain you won't care anymore;)

i would rest it and MAYBE do a few rotator cuff movements w/mini bands for it very light. a shoulder injury is nothing fun nor is it something that heals fast if you mess it up.
