Excessive sweating during sleep

Delinquent

Well-known member
My wife has been experiencing some serious sweating lately while attempting to sleep. It doesn't happen every night but just about. Along with her not getting much sleep, she is also inhibiting my sleep by trying to move closer to me since her side of the bed will be so wet from top to bottom. If she uncovers herself, she gets too cold and then will have to cover up. This causes her to sweat more and the viscious cycle starts. It's really causing a lot of problems with our sleeping but with no medical insurance, I think we're pretty much out of luck right now when it comes to finding a resolution. If anyone can help, we'd really appreciate it

Two things come to mind:

Age and rx medications.

The first being related to possible early menopause, the second being a side effect of SSRIs and SNRIs.

So, slap some vitals down about your wife (if you don't mind) like age, weight, health, allergies, diet, medications, supplements, etc.

Very little fat as she still has a lot of muscle from our previous workout routines. She has lost probably 10lbs of fat over the last few months.

No allergies

Diet is not really strict. Mainly home cooked meals with a little fast food every now and then

No medications or supplements

She has been depressed a lot lately which may be caused by the lack of sleep or our ever increasing financial problems.

We smoke pot pretty regularly but that's stopping as soon as our last little bit is gone. We rarely drink anymore. We'll take an occasional pain killer though.

I'm not sure if there's a connection, but if she has a decreased or totally absent menstrual period, the night time sweating may be a side effect somehow.

The reason I say this is because my wife started going through the same thing once she ramped up her workouts and added lean muscle. Her period is basically gone (not uncommon, from what I've read) but she does suffer from nighttime sweating, but it's really sporadic; there's no regular episodes.

She had no luck with her physician; all test results came back within the norm. I don't believe she had her free test/total hormone levels checked, though. Her family doc is a bit of a zipperhead, IMO, anyways. More of a "well, wait 3 months and see what happens".

So, check with your family doc, be persistant, and ask for a complete checkup. If it was happening to me, I'd strangle my doc like bart simpson until I found out why it was happening.

Ths thing is that she isn't or hasn't worked out in any regular fashion for a long time. Just just lost the 10lbs by doing nothing except smoking a lot of pot which I was the same way when I first started smoking when I was a kid. I lost something like 20lbs from just smoking. I don't know how it was done considering the level of gluttony that was performed after every smoke session but for some reason, I think they are related.

Remember no insurance so a doc is out of the question right now. It looks like we'll have to see if stopping the pot takes care of the issue or whenever I get a chance to get a full time job again so we can have insurance.

I would think that it is something hormonal. Has she started/changed any BC pills lately?

Well she did go off of the shot but that's was at least 1.5 year ago. Maybe it was sooner and could be a possible cause. Her periods are normal so I at least know it's not early menopause. At least we hope it's not something as serious as that.

Sleeping last night was fine so hopefully it won't happen for a while

I sweat at night too. I go to bed with a sweatshirt on cuz Imn cold. The in the middle of the night Im sweating. Then I have the chills from my shirt being damp. So then I bundle up more, which causes more sweating. It's really weird.

Please have her see a physician as soon as possible.

A couple of things come to mind as causing drenching nightsweats:

Tuberculosis, malignancy (especially leukemia/lymphoma), hyperthyroidism, and some rare infectious diseases in this country (i.e., brucellosis, malaria, etc. -- malaria isn't rare, but isn't common in this country).
