thats sad. We've come such a long way - from nurturing our surroundings so they take care of us to raping them. I dont know if we can change anything. With the industrialization the demand grows bigger, people want faster service and this is the result. I wish the old fashioned farmers as individuals would come back, not these highly organized industries.....but then, all our commodities can clash too....you dont know which way to goInquisitivePsyche said:I believe they do this because the cow doesn't produce the milk quick enough.. so anything to get more milk in a short time they will do. And yes, cows have an extremely large bond with their calves as do horses...

I ment more of the mink kind of fur coats and jackets or whatever. I dont think anyone eats them.
Btw, I hate how they treat the cows to get milk. From what I've seen, they impregnate them every so often so they keep on having milk (and I thought cows have milk regardless???? seriously confused here) and then they remove the calf from her. Apparently, the cow and her calf have a very strong bond.......how true is this?

children die of hunger because women are poorly treated, because women are not given contraceptive methods, because womens right to abortion is non-existing in some countries. In those countries where there is the most hungry children, those are the ones with hardly any human rights for females and kids. Give those women the right to choose when to get pregnant and watch the control of population come back in track.SpyWizard said:Every year 15 million children die of hunger

I love animals. Love them.. more than humans most the time. I am completely against animal cruelty.
But I am not against using animals for food, to provide shelter, etc. I think that's natural. Sure the process seems mechanical and cruel at time. Hell, when i see the aligators grab a zebra and hear the poor zebra squeal like a rabbit, I have to close my eyes... it's horrifying - but it's reality.
I also don't want to see chicken or beef processing plants, or know all the details of how they were treated to get them to my plate. I know that's a bit of a head in the sand type tactic, but I can live with that. I have to eat, and I have to have shelter - any my metro ass isn't going out and shooting my food/shelter on my own (although I have shot 4 deer and numerous small animals back when I wasn't so gaye).
At the extreme there is the way certain types of food are brought to our plate - such as veal, foie gras, etc. I find some of that treatment deplorable - based on my understanding of it.
I eat veal when given the choice and really don't give the thought of the treatment a second thought, but it always crosses my mind. As far as foie gras - I don't have a taste for it -so it's not an issue.
I guess this is all a question of where you draw the line at the atrocities of our world and consumerism. I am not sure.
We can all ask the same quesitons about our clothing, TVs, etc. We all know that the comfort we live in, in this country, is only possible because of the systematic explotation of third world countries. We all know that somewhere there is a 8 y/o child chained to a steam pipe being whip'd and told to knit our damn sweater faster so that when winter comes around - InquisitivePsyche can be warm in her new 'Madonna' button up.
I guess it's just a matter of what tugs at your heart strings and what cause you decide to take on.

Cardiologist William C. Roberts hails from the famed cattle state of Texas, but he says this without hesitation. Humans aren't physiologically designed to eat meat. "I think the evidence is pretty clear. If you look at various characteristics of carnivores versus herbivores, it doesn't take a genius to see where humans line up," says Roberts, editor in chief of The American Journal of Cardiology and medical director of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

That being said, while the treatment of the geese is cruel, so is the treatment of ALL conventional feedlot animals. Battery chickens are debeaked and fed arsenic to keep their parasites down, cattle live their lives standing knee deep in boggy, shitty feedlots, milk cows that are nothing more than glorified mile fountains, never get to spend a moment with their calves, and don't leave their stalls except to go to the slaughter house, pigs that go insane from being cooped up, etc.
But why stop there? What about puppy, kitten and ferret mills? Even better, what of the lot of the kittens and puppies who are born exclusively for the purpose of being euthanized so biology students have something to dissect? What about the rats, mice, fish and rabbits that are bred exclusively to be fed, alive, to reptiles? What about animals that are still used in medical and cosmetic testing?
If you wear leather, bath, use any kind of personal beauty aid, and eat ANY kind of meat, fish included, you contribute, to tell yourself otherwise is just lying to yourself. If you don't shop 100% organic, then the plants you're eating were probably fertilized with deitrus of some parts of dead animals, if you have a carnivorous pet, then you contribute when you feed it.
And if you're going to go on about how horrible all that is, and how it should be eliminated, what about the people who make their livelihood by providing these animals for these industries? What if you're protests are preventing THEIR children from getting needed medical or dental care or a better education?

I'm sorry IP - like I said I appreciate when people take stand for what they believe in - but I can't figure out how you always place yourself in the foreground to be in the directly line of fire for absolute ridicule here.

That being said, while the treatment of the geese is cruel, so is the treatment of ALL conventional feedlot animals. Battery chickens are debeaked and fed arsenic to keep their parasites down, cattle live their lives standing knee deep in boggy, shitty feedlots, milk cows that are nothing more than glorified mile fountains, never get to spend a moment with their calves, and don't leave their stalls except to go to the slaughter house, pigs that go insane from being cooped up, etc.

starting a thread entitled "EVERYONE!" and then insulting "EVERYONE!" who doesn't agree with protesting seems like a huge cry for more negative attention. i don't get it.
maybe its the "don't hate me, i'm a really good person" thing.
