I believe they do this because the cow doesn't produce the milk quick enough.. so anything to get more milk in a short time they will do. And yes, cows have an extremely large bond with their calves as do horses...

:(
thats sad. We've come such a long way - from nurturing our surroundings so they take care of us to raping them. I dont know if we can change anything. With the industrialization the demand grows bigger, people want faster service and this is the result. I wish the old fashioned farmers as individuals would come back, not these highly organized industries.....but then, all our commodities can clash too....you dont know which way to go

lol...that shows I am into leather :lmao:

I ment more of the mink kind of fur coats and jackets or whatever. I dont think anyone eats them.

Btw, I hate how they treat the cows to get milk. From what I've seen, they impregnate them every so often so they keep on having milk (and I thought cows have milk regardless???? seriously confused here) and then they remove the calf from her. Apparently, the cow and her calf have a very strong bond.......how true is this?

Yeah animals killed just for their pelts is really fucked! I would never wear furrrrrrrrrrrr or any other animal pelt!

The way they milk cows is horrible. My friend used to work on a dairy farm and he was sickened by it.
And 'wWhy are we the ONLY mammal that still drinks milk after we're weened? And too boot another animals milk?!

Oh I know. I am not a crazy tree hugging activist like some people on here are saying. They make a judgment by one statement I make. lol. It's the first time I've done anything like this. If it's sane for the most part, I will do it.

Just because you're sensitive doesn't mean I'm nasty...sorry, Princess. And I didn't say you were a tree-hugging activist, I said save your tree-hugging rhetoric for people who give a shit about ducks...or geese...whatever. I applaud your conviction, but I think it's misdirected. Good for you, though. Good luck with your goose saving. Meanwhile, I'll continue to risk my own life, almost daily, to save another humans. Oh, and Blueta2...shark-infested waters are part of my job, and I'm holding my own...thanks.

There are endless possibilities, I think. It's just a matter of finding them and I believe, we slowly are. Many things have gotten better in the whole "animal rights," department.. its just still a long way from adequate.

Hopefully we will find a way. I know they just banned horseslaughter here. :)

Every year 15 million children die of hunger

this is one of the reasons animal rights is meaningless...

it's a part of society, the real issues of the world.. death to humans because we in the USA can grow more food than we can possible consume, our gov even pays farmers to not plant crops.. and every year..

15 million children die from hunger..

vs..

Birds being overfeed as a food source.. hmmm...

So you choose to fight for them and I will continue with my efforts. Don't put another persons will to fight for what THEY believe in.. go feed those children... I (as well as my family) try to help many causes. I choose animal rights for this specific event. And people will say that ok, 15 million children are starving but millions more are dying from aids.. so fight for them and not the kids.. I mean come on.. where would it end?

And as for your society comment, many would say that children starving is part of THEIR (where the kids are at and adults) society... and nature in general - way to control things... yeah- sad huh. The difference is that people are not intentionally inflicting this upon them.

I'm glad you are passionate about something.. anything.. don't let me or anyone else try to sway you...

Pick something.. believe in something.. do something.. don't become callous to those that are not able to help themselves..

Thanks for caring enough to give of yourself..

I saw, thanks. :) See now this kind of reaction is what I would consider a mature/respectful reaction. All too often, people don't fight for anything ....

You may believe in something else but you aren't putting what I believe down.

Thank you.

In all seriousness...

I love animals. Love them.. more than humans most the time. I am completely against animal cruelty.

But I am not against using animals for food, to provide shelter, etc. I think that's natural. Sure the process seems mechanical and cruel at time. Hell, when i see the aligators grab a zebra and hear the poor zebra squeal like a rabbit, I have to close my eyes... it's horrifying - but it's reality.

I also don't want to see chicken or beef processing plants, or know all the details of how they were treated to get them to my plate. I know that's a bit of a head in the sand type tactic, but I can live with that. I have to eat, and I have to have shelter - any my metro ass isn't going out and shooting my food/shelter on my own (although I have shot 4 deer and numerous small animals back when I wasn't so gaye).

At the extreme there is the way certain types of food are brought to our plate - such as veal, foie gras, etc. I find some of that treatment deplorable - based on my understanding of it.

I eat veal when given the choice and really don't give the thought of the treatment a second thought, but it always crosses my mind. As far as foie gras - I don't have a taste for it -so it's not an issue.

I guess this is all a question of where you draw the line at the atrocities of our world and consumerism. I am not sure.

We can all ask the same quesitons about our clothing, TVs, etc. We all know that the comfort we live in, in this country, is only possible because of the systematic explotation of third world countries. We all know that somewhere there is a 8 y/o child chained to a steam pipe being whip'd and told to knit our damn sweater faster so that when winter comes around - InquisitivePsyche can be warm in her new 'Madonna' button up.

I guess it's just a matter of what tugs at your heart strings and what cause you decide to take on.

children die of hunger because women are poorly treated, because women are not given contraceptive methods, because womens right to abortion is non-existing in some countries. In those countries where there is the most hungry children, those are the ones with hardly any human rights for females and kids. Give those women the right to choose when to get pregnant and watch the control of population come back in track.

btw, I do donate money for babies and children, I am not heartless

I like your points. You are talking about Madonna LOL. She just adopted a kid from Malawai or something... believe me, she makes sure her clothes are not made by children in some sweat shop factory.

Either way- this is what I choose to fight for. I cannot fight for everything. That's why everyone needs to do their share and things will get better as they have been...

I am tired. Bed time. :)

Tell ya what...come on down to the Air Station...I'll give you a tour. We're at the western end of LAX, right before the El Segundo butterfly reserve. Feel free to shoot an email to my hushmail account and I'll give you my name and number. Then, we can set up time and date for you to come down and meet the guys. I'm not on here saying I'm a freakin' rockstar...I'm a broke-ass rescue swimmer. And yeah...there are PLENTY of White's out here. Have you ever been to Catalina or the Channel Islands? I thought not. Want proof? Come swimming with us. I don't dislike IP...I don't even know her. Furthermore, I think what she's doing is fine. But as far as doing my part to contribute...I think spending 6 weeks in New Orleans, pulling people out of flooded homes counts. So fuck you.

so there ya go. You're doing good. Now if u started a thread about how you helped the folks in NO and everyone came in and bashed ya, you would not take too kindly either.

At no time did I bash anyone. Granted, I sarcastically poked a little, but with no intended malice. However, you can't compare helping victim's of Katrina with saving a fattened fuckin' goose...sorry. I'm not going to go out and start stomping on puppies heads', or butt-fuck a kitten, but I don't give a rat's ass about PETA or force-fed geese. Sorry, but I like to eat animals and I don't question the means by which they're presented to me. And yes...I have TREMENDOUS respect for sharks, and you can swim with them all you want. In fact, we have a special "meat-suit" you can wear...

I look fat in meat suits, is there something more slimming I can wear?

You don't have to give a rats ass about PETA or animals, but you should respect those that do.
And yes, I am a die hard animal lover so I do compare saving humans to saving animals. I respect ALL life!

You can wear the meat-thong, but it's still a prototype.

I think it's great that you can compare saving a human life to saving an animals' life. But again, I think that viewpoint is skewed...agree to disagree. I love animals too, though...they're delicious.

Go check that site out. You aren't really understanding this.. they are fed MANY times their weight.. do you know what happens to body organs if that occurs??

Read up. Then decide. Watch the video, then decide. :) Just saying.. it doesn't hurt to know. The minute I saw what they do to cows/pigs, I stopped eating them.

I think the reason the masses are not phased by this is one is that they don't eat fois gras and most people treat their own bodies worse.

Now I like liver but if you really think about what the liver does and what you're eating that alone should sway people.

That all aside I won't eat veal or venison and yet I can happily crack up a lobster, suck that thing dry and still feel for bad for the live lobsters huddled in the corner at the fish market.

That's f*cked up - I know it and on occasion it disturbs me.

I also know I'm not alone.

Either way I think you deserve props for standing up for what you believe in.

I look out my window and bambi cousins are outside manging on the neighbors landscaping and I'm still running to take their picture.

OMG

There are farm fresh eggs all over out here - and I mean really fresh like from the coop in the back yard to the make shift stand at the top of the road kinda fresh.

Once you go farm fresh you won't go back to store bought white freaky and those fake brown eggs.

So yeah, part carnivore and part hypocrite.

i thought you were going to tell me they do horrible things to the deer....in which case i might have a problem with it...

i look at it this way, if I thought about it hard enough, I could convince myself that i should never eat another animal again...because I do feel bad about the way they are treated, and I don't like killing them. and I have killed animals....and I didn't like doing it. I just don't think about it. I couldn't live without meat.

well, I didn't read the whole thread.

Actually, I read the thread title and then skimmed through the first post. That gave me the following conclusions:

1. IP is a hardcore vegan. I mean, not a wimpy eggs-milk vegan, but a really hardcore one. In fact, she is like "If it doesn't have roots, I'm not eating it Peter"

2. IP only uses man-made materials: she despises people that wear leather anything: shoes, pants, skirts, etc. In fact, her car has specially ordered synthetic leather finish (or human leather, whatever was more expensive)

3. Animal tested products? You can bet she only uses 100% organic products, she goes to the river, smash some roots together and uses that to wash her hair... I'm telling you peeps.

ehhh. If I was wrong in any of the above, no problem, we understand that only cute animal have rights and/or are worth fighting for

This is an excellent thread to make in a site where most people call it a "good day" when the eat 200+ grams of A N I M A L protein

Watch out for IP's next thread "I think the Death Penalty is a suitable one for steroid users. Poll"

good point.
because she has attacked the intelligence of some people that disagree, you'd think logic would be more present.
but that was shown with the cake thread, on a site where most people are dieting, or men who don't care about cute cakes.

i don't care who's smart, who's stupid, and who is the most illogical, who has nice cakes, who eats foi gras, and who is wearing pleather. to each his own, although the title of this thread sounds like we'd all be excited about this. what i hate to see is someone attacking someone else, while in a glass house.

I go to France for groceries at least once a month. And you can bet I'm coming back each and every time with a tin of Foie Gras. Hey, even Daniel likes it (the little Gourmet he is)

lmao....

I used to have a friend in elementary school. they lived right on the lake and had 1/2 glass house. The side on he street was siding, but the side on the lake was all glass.Nothing like sitting in a boat with a pair of binoculars and seeing it all....
I would have to be severely secluded before having a glass house.

If you want to send your money to victims that wouldn't give a rats ass about you or send money to you if you need it, then fine. That's your perogative. Either way I am excited for this protest. :)

I'll take pics - lol.

well, I didn't read the whole thread.

Poll"

You saw here first peeps!

that was most eggcellently written

I'm sorry IP - like I said I appreciate when people take stand for what they believe in - but I can't figure out how you always place yourself in the foreground to be in the directly line of fire for absolute ridicule here.

Won't happen. This is an organized protest (people aren't getting crazy and breaking things blah blah.. just signs).

And if that were to happen, I'd be outta there. As I said before, I like things sane.

Are you dragging your bf to this?
Sorry if someone else asked but I obviously did not read the whole thread.

I'm going with a couple of girls but I may drag him along. He's an animal lover, too. Then I'll probably visit my mom because she works 6 blocks from there, I believe.

I would probably go if I was your bf too.
I would never mention it to my friends and hope that you would never bring it up infront of them!

Oh he doesn't care. He's not embarassed by it. He'd choose animals over humans any day...

But, he's going because he thinks that it's an incredibly cruel way of producing a delicacy - type food. It really is horrendous. I can't watch the videos or look at the pics too often. I think ducks are so cute. lol.

I was trying to get my mom to come but it's at 9am and the markets are very busy then so she can't walk over... it would be funny though if she did. haha. I laugh thinking about it.

-100 for IP.
I thought you were smarter then that.

I certainly respect anyone standing up for what they believe in, and I respect passion and a willingness to be proactive.

I also, however, strongly resent any implication that if I do not share in that passion, I am less intelligent, or less compassionate, or less...well, anything. I'm not going to toot my own horn, but I've certainly done my part in my own way.

Like jerkbox, if I really really thought about it, I could probably convince myself to give up meat. I even did once for about three months. I just enjoy the taste too much. Humans are meant to eat meat, it is part of our biology.

Believe me - not every man thinks the same way. Don't forget how picky I am. -100, -200, the fact that I'm on a point system, says it all.

lol. Sorry. He's going because he supports it. He doesn't think with his dick. He's very sensitive to animal issues.

Yeah I looked in your profile and it says northeast. But you can look up and see if restaurants serve it there.. I believe many still do. The reason it got banned here is because there was such an outcry from the general public about it.

i'd love to be turned loose on a crowd of anemic vegetarians. just flog the shit out of everyone in my path....

We are? I swear I thought that I read something somewhere where they are continuing to research that and it shows that humans are meant to be more vegetarians than carnivores.

Cardiologist William C. Roberts hails from the famed cattle state of Texas, but he says this without hesitation. Humans aren't physiologically designed to eat meat. "I think the evidence is pretty clear. If you look at various characteristics of carnivores versus herbivores, it doesn't take a genius to see where humans line up," says Roberts, editor in chief of The American Journal of Cardiology and medical director of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

I believe that is still debated. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1594/is_1_13/ai_82352627

I was talking to the few people who were insulting me and bashing what I was doing... and I put a little sarcasm in there just as they were doing to the posts towards me...(the whole intelligence thing).

Look up the word "analogy"
"humor" might be something else you may want to study.
Seeing that you are into phsycology why did you not recognize I was making a joke and using the "-100" to finish it?
The joke was on the concept of a typical guy.
Yet you made the assumption it was not a joke.
Realize that when you describe something you are opening a window into who you are.
We see things the way we do because of the way we were raised and our enfvironment.

I'm sure it's still being researched, but as things are now, we are classified as omnivores.

Defend your beliefs with everything you have, by all means, but when you take pot shots you are defeating yourself and any chance of someone taking you seriously is shot because you start sounding like a stereotypical holier than thou. Making comments like "Don't make me take this down to an 8th grade level" is....taking things to an 8th grade level. And I'm not talking about intelligence.

I'm not sure what you expected posting this here, to be honest. I'm not justifying the response but I don't think you are going to find too many vegetarian body builders.

I totally agree!

I was a vegetarian for 7 years. One day I just snapped and had eat some dam meat it is in our biology to eat meat. I am way healthier now then I was back in my vegan days.

I wouldn't care if they banned the slaughtering of cows. This is just the first step. Go watch the videos... and if they banned chicken/turkey, I'd be happy because then I'd have to become a vegetarian.. it's hard but I want to do it (I eat chicken/turkey but not often).

Hey what do you think about the seat belt laws, property laws, and all the other laws that have been passed for idiots who cannot do things for themselves and be moral about certain thing? This culture of control? Geeze.. this is one reason I am embarassed to be human sometimes.. because people think 'Just because they allow this, means they should allow EVERYTHING." Do you see what these animals go through? My God...

Should we eat whale and dolphin, too? Dog and cat? Many people would say what you're saying...

I don't have the time, energy or inclination to plow through 180+ posts but I have to say, how nice for you that you have the choice. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 11 years before I got sick and now I'm celiac and intolerant of soy. What should I eat? I guess a bullet

That being said, while the treatment of the geese is cruel, so is the treatment of ALL conventional feedlot animals. Battery chickens are debeaked and fed arsenic to keep their parasites down, cattle live their lives standing knee deep in boggy, shitty feedlots, milk cows that are nothing more than glorified mile fountains, never get to spend a moment with their calves, and don't leave their stalls except to go to the slaughter house, pigs that go insane from being cooped up, etc.

But why stop there? What about puppy, kitten and ferret mills? Even better, what of the lot of the kittens and puppies who are born exclusively for the purpose of being euthanized so biology students have something to dissect? What about the rats, mice, fish and rabbits that are bred exclusively to be fed, alive, to reptiles? What about animals that are still used in medical and cosmetic testing?

If you wear leather, bath, use any kind of personal beauty aid, and eat ANY kind of meat, fish included, you contribute, to tell yourself otherwise is just lying to yourself. If you don't shop 100% organic, then the plants you're eating were probably fertilized with deitrus of some parts of dead animals, if you have a carnivorous pet, then you contribute when you feed it.

And if you're going to go on about how horrible all that is, and how it should be eliminated, what about the people who make their livelihood by providing these animals for these industries? What if you're protests are preventing THEIR children from getting needed medical or dental care or a better education?

if i sit and really think about where all the meat i eat actually comes from and the processes that go into producing it, like the chicken cages and the images of the slaughterhouse, it disgusts me, but i still eat the meat b/c i like to thank you, where's all the poon-tang..out

That's an indepth view into how it all works, and also true.

I think people, naturally have an emotional response to this type of stuff.

The thing to keep in mind is that you can't act on your emotions, you have to take a step back and look at things.

Nature is horrific as well - who can watch a Zebra be caught and drug under by an aligator without wincing? Who's heard a rabbit squeal when a coyote catches him? That shit is TERRIBLE, but it's nature and it's life.

On the other hand there are the horrors of our world outside of this. 15 millions children starving, factories overseas choc'd full of de'facto slave like labor all to make our clothes, TV's, etc.

starting a thread entitled "EVERYONE!" and then insulting "EVERYONE!" who doesn't agree with protesting seems like a huge cry for more negative attention. i don't get it.
