Eating before AM cardio??

I usually try to get up and do my AM cardio on an empty stomach but sometimes I'm starving so I'll grab a piece of fruit before I go. Is this bad? Am I defeating the purpose of doing the cardio all together?
Thanks!

If you really want to cut cardio on an empty stomach is better

but it can be a liitle catabolic (though you can take L-Glutamine an BCAAs)

so, if you don't mind losing a little LBM with fat don't eat your piece of fruit

No fruits

just take a some protein powder or something. To much cortisol flowing in the body upon waking. You need to eat something.

Fruit has sugar in it which will spike your insulin. This will give your body other stuff to use for energy as opposed to primarily using body fat. In other words, it defeats the purpose of am cardio.

Definately do not eat fruit first hing b4 cardio, if you gotta eat have some egg whites

gymtimes right, your trying to avoid insulin spike

Try some sugar-free Koolaid with some glycerine and aminos/protein. Make sure you get tons of water, and you will not be as thirsty later. Low GI.

some fruits can cause insulin spikes but they would have to have a sugar content of 50 grams or more which is a lot of fruit. and those fruits would have to be high in glucose based sugars.

fructose is absorbed through a different cellular pathway then other glucose base sugars and does not effect blood sugar levels or spike insulin.

Thanks! I think I'll try the egg whites. I just prefer real food for some reason when I first wake up in the morning.

FitnessFrk - Normally my fruit of choice would be to grab a banana on my way to the gym because it's so easy. Don't know the GI but I think it probably is one of the higher ones as far as fruit goes. I stopped buying bananas all together so I won't get tempted. THanks again!

banana is not the highest GI piece of fruit

but bananas have a lot of carbs (& calories)

different fruits contain different types of sugars. and the ratios of the sugars can change as fruit rippens. with banana's the riper the are higher the amount of glucose based sugars and the less fructose there is.
