Does this happen in your gym?

I lifted this morning and it was total fucking chaos. People were everywhere. I am ready for the new years people to finish up their quest for a comeback. I had this guy taking up a flat bench. He had 2 dimes on. Does this shit happen in your gym? The club that I am in offers a special before christmas.

It's the gym's busiest time of the year. The lower the dues are at your gym the worse it will be because anoyne can afford it.

yeah its a joke in january. i just ran a post on this...
all fat, smelly, out of shape losers who think doing sit ups will give you a chiselled six pack and doing 30min CV after eating five cakes will rip you up!
also when i finish and try and grab a protein shake at the cafe or some chicken wraps i cant as all the fat boys and girls have beat me to it, ordering pies and chips.
losers

Yeah, this probably happens at EVERY gym..... I hate it so bad I actually take January off from lifting..... I just do light weights at home, concentrate on doing cardio, and burning some fat..... By Feb when I go back, many of them have given up by then..... New chicks are always nice to look at, but I hate it when they actually try to lift, and take up the equipment..... I guess I could offer to help them, maybe get a number or 2, but I'm not much of a gym predator.... Just hang in there, it will thin out in a few weeks again....

Oh, I don't think that at all.... It's not that I think I'm better, it's all about being selfish..... Just hate it when I wanna train back, and I can't get on the proper equipment..... Doesn't matter if Arnold was lifting at my gym, it would get on my nerves..... I just hate crowds, and I wanna do my workout, and get the fuck home...... Nothing about feeling superior....

lol, on another note, it's always nice to see some new hot ladies though. We always seem to have an influx of fresh meat this time of year.
:)
and its funny as sh*t to see people that have never lifted before trying to lift way to heavy and most of them have invented lifts nobody has ever seen before!. LMAO

most guys (lets say 90%) at the 5 or 6 gyms i go to are what i refer to as "clutter". there are very few that demand any respect. and yes, there is definitely an increase in gym clutter at this time of year. but at the same time i love walking in and destroying them. they want to look like me but never will. i want to wear a t-shirt that says "go get your bowflex". of course, every now and then some guy comes in and blows me away :(

lol...aaaweee give them credit for trying though...my gym is packed too...what really bothers me is seeing the "fat" people doing the ab machines!!! I have these 2 big burly looking fat guys in there everyday...yet they do no cardio...

I commend anyone who is trying to better themselves, but I hate the guys that obviously have not been to a gym in years that come in on day 1 like they own the place. I nicely remind them that This is MY gym. Lose the attitude and all is well again.

You work out?? :)

Yes it is just a temporary thing. The New years resolution people will be taking up all the machines and leaving plates every where but after the first 6 weeks it will all be back to normal.

Just my 2 cents but i think it is pretty damn rude to be critizing people whi are trying to put forth an effort to better themselves wether they stick with it or not I don't think anyone should be critizied for it. Where does anyone get off on making fun of them just because you are now in the position you are in looking and feeling good about yourself and able to lift a good amount of weight. Remember you were all there at one time or another. :rainbow:

I train well outside peak hours, new college girls on the cardio equipment are nice to look at & the money they pay keeps the gyms open and membership fees down. none of them bother me so I could give a shit, why go getting your panties in a knot just because some new guy's using the 25lbers?

I agree with you..but we are not making fun of them for their effort..at least im not..i commend them for trying to get back in shape and making the effort...what pisses me off is when i move note even a foot away from the machine i was using and then some "newbie" plants his/her ass down without asking if i was done...then they look at you all wierd cause you are "nice" enough to ask if you can get your last sets in...

Yes, specially when I go at night.

I am not making fun of them for their effort. If they stick with it great! To them I am Ronnie, bitch! I live in a small community and I see the same people come and go every year. I just wish people would have a little sense. I hate it when people stand around talking. Get the hell out of my way.

swordfish. you are so right, the people who steal your machine are the real people i hate. ill have 315 on the bench bang out a set of 6-8 and walk to get a swig of water for like 10 secs and two little rat bags have hopped in and put a 25 each side. little bastards.

Just bring a gallon of water with you and don't "walk away" from a bench in a crowded gym.

(how come everytime someone here posts how upset they get about a crowded gym - they always point out how "weak" or "small" these gym MEMBERS are.

I may be the biggest guy in the gym at most times - but I would "never" belittle "anyone" trying to better themselves.

I'm not saying everyone bitching here is an a$$hole - but all I picture is the guy who HAS to have the bench RIGHT in the center of the mirror, - he "looks" crazy - has his walkman on - and he's making loud-shrieking noises as he revs-up for his next set. As I watch - I try not to chuckle, but these guys are wasting more energy and TIME in between sets, and never really do THAT much lifting - and when they do - the form is pathetic.

here's my point - I can ALWAYS find a piece of equiptment to workout on - even when the line for some machines is 3-deep.

I take busy opportunities like the early part of the year to try out some different machines that I would never think to use when there's just a couple of us in the gym. years ago, when the gym would REALLY be busy - I would grab a couple of bumbells and head onto an empty raquetball court, shut the lights out and do lunges until I puked, or passed out............

All I'm saying is BE CREATIVE and NEVER use "people" as an excuse for wussing out of a workout of even for having a bad workout................

you're all stronger than that...........

STOP THE INSANITY!!!

I had some new gym members come up to me thinking I was a trainer - they commented that I look better than the actual trainers employed there. Be patient - by February things should slow down.

I think the biggest problem with new people is they dont understand the basic gym rules. My pet peeves are

1.) the guy talking on his cell phone for 10 mins while you are trying to use the equipment.

2.) the guy doing 8 sets of lat pull downs for 40 reps each set, so they can get ripped.

3.) the super social gym guy that walks around and talks to everyone and gives out pointers while he doesnt even touch a weight.

yeah i just got back up school and it was ridiculous. all these fuckin people goin to work out standing in a long ass line to get in and i know that by february half of them wont be there. yeah its annoying. waiting in line to use a bench press.

This is the first year that I haven't had to deal with the "New Year's" crowd, nor the "spring break" crowd, which will start in another month. My gym is all regulars. I don't think I've seen a new person yet. I love it. It's so nice to avoid all the BS. I'm all for people starting to work out, but what we are all annoyed with is the cocky attitude and lack of respect that comes with it. For all the people trying to make positive changes I got nuttin' but love for ya!

College towns are the worst. The beginning of every quarter has a huge influx of new members who might last 2 weeks at the most before giving up. The new girls coming in make it even worse. Many'a bench press sessions have been cut short because I couldn't lay down :)

I do not think they are looking down on others who are trying to get in shape they are just commenting on the ones who day dream about getting in shape and take up time and space on the machines when some one who is serious about training and getting in shape has to stall their work out until they get finish dreaming. Do not get me wrong there are people that are new to the gym and train their asses off then there are the ones that just get in the way of every one else and eventually do not come to the gym any more. It is just reality and no denying it.

I do not think the Elite boarb members are thinking thet are Ronnie Coleman. They are just commenting on shit that gets on their nerves in the gym. I know just about every one on this board who trains at a gym other than home has someting in there gym that gets on their nerves and they have a right to commit on it even though they do not look like Ronnie Coleman. So your saying Ronnie Coleman can commit on things with out anybody challenging him because he is big. That to me sounds like some flunky groupy shit. I do not run up behind any persons ass because they are a celebrity movie star pro athelete or pro body builder. I love myself and think I am the shit. We all bleed the same color blood and will die eventually so the only difference between us and them is they may have more money that us so AI do not think you should be saying until we are them we can not commit on things we do not like.

From watching these New Years resolution guys trying to lift waaay too much weight for their experience level, with the worst form I've ever seen, I'm just surprised there aren't more injuries.

the frat boys and the fucksticks who walk around with the sleeves of their medium T's rolled up annoy me because I hate misplaced arrogance. new years people (fatties, sloppy looking chicks, housewives and rail thin guys) are just part of the scenery. the usual assholes and dorks are there 365...

This is so true. The other day a new woman was training at my gym. She was working hard and I told her so. We chatted for a second and I introduced myself and offered my hand for her to shake. She shook my hand all the way up until it was pressing against her breast as she smiled at me.

I think the news years crowd is great.

I fuckin hate that shit! people and concrete everywhere! And they don't even know how to train.

Instead of judging others at the gym maybe you guys should try and help them. If you see someone doing something wrong, correct them in a helpful manner. Stop thinking your so superior because you have more mass on you and try and help your fellow man.

The squat rack still seems to be empty.

Yes, just today I did Squats at my gym and sure it enough thats open just like usual. Except for the regulars who use it for stacking weight for deadlifts/squats.

When are people going to stop being afraid of SQUATS? I love LEG DAY.

the top move is the swinging 30 lb dumbell curls. it's like watching ballet.

I love heave-ho curls. Makes me smile when I see them.

I use my home gym 3x a week, but every weekend I join a buddy at a college gym for wieghts and handball - and I must say, aside from the skinny college kids doing bizzaro moves (ever see the chest fly where the retarded user twists his wrists 180 degrees mid motion? I did this weekend), it is not that bad - and I get to see the ridiculously hot 18-22 year old college girls working the cardio.

It does pain me though that these kids know nothing about squats, deads, chins, compound moves...really a shame.

And Island, if I am asked for help, I will give it gladly - but I don't give unsolicited advice becuase I don't like getting it. For the most part it would fall of deaf ears anyway.

Me: "Do Squats, deads, chins, bench and military presses. That's it."

Doofus: "But I like concentration curls and girl flyes! I won't get big guns and chest your way!"

Ugh.

I can see people doing stupid things bothering you but just because he had a low weight on the bar you were mad? I had to do bench with that kind of a weight for a long time following an injury, sure it was embarassing but I wouldn't think other people were getting pissed off.

Have you tried to help someone out at the gym...most of the time they give you this "I didnt ask you" look...unless approached i dont offer advice...people are way to arrogant in the gym these days to ask anyone for help, let alone receive free advice....

just remember everybody starts somewhere,no need to bash these new people who are trying to better themselves and dont know any better when it comes to gym etiquitte, if they are doing something stupid and just taking up space say something but if they are using the equipment even though it may be next to no weight they have every right to use it or take up the space as you do.

thats what i feel like though with a lot of these people. they are all college students, and so am i, and im not by far the biggest guy in the gym or the strongest but i feel like i work hard when im there and i hate it when theres 3 guys standing around the seated preacher curl talkin about beer pong and fuckin espn for 15 minutes and takin up space

At the gym I used to go to, shit like that happened all the time. But if you went in at 4:30-5am, the hard core SOB's were in there EVERYDAY. They were all serious and didn't have to worry about people getting in their way. By the time the other members wake up and get their morning coffee and bagel, these dudes were done working out and long gone.

i definately hear you on that, and its totally different if they are fucking off and not actually working out,but aslong as someone is giving it their best shot i see no difference in them benching 85lbs or 385,thats all i was saying, id totally snap if people were fucking around like you said when i needed equipment

"RESOLUTIONISTS" but a fringe benefit is always the new pussy, give it about another 2 weeks and itll open up, hopefully the pussy will open up too!!!!

what i love is when the newbies come in and try to tell me how to train when they ask for advice and then tell me i am wrong....

cruised in their yesterday evening, time for some heavy ass back and you got weights all over the place, people on the lat pulldown looking like they are about to take off pulling the bar to their waists for fuck sake. i hate january`s, the gym is full of fat wasters. i know what ur sayin there. i used to go at about 530-6am a few years ago and the only people in there were the elderly and the big bodybuilder mofos (i.e., not just the big guys, but the giant motherfuckers that wear the fuckin big red ronald mcdonald squat boots, weight belts, fuckin wraps on every joint, chalk all over themselves, lifting hard as fuck. i miss that shit. they were all cool as shit too, not overly cocky and i was young and inexperienced and they were all willing to give advice to me no matter what. not like most cocky college kid assholes that go to the gym with a fuckin hemp necklace on and do flat db bench with the 70s and then throw them 3 feet after the set like they were using 160s or some shit.

Oh shit does that piss me off. It's funny how the have the strength to exercise with that weight, but when it comes to setting it back down it's a BOOM!! Shakes the damn floor and everything. Kinda like saying, look at me guys I just did some shit with heavy ass weights. There are ways to set down weights, even when you're spent, without registering on the richter scale.

The early morning hardcore dudes (and old people) seemed very respectful too. They were considerate, polite and would help if you asked.

you're point is valid robly. My problem is that here in South Florida I live and workout sorrounded by spics from Mars and the last thing I'd like to do is help them knowing how they hate this country and how they talk bullshit about American people.

But that's just my personal situation. Don't take it as a general rule. I'd be more than glad helping out good fellas.
