Does any one know: washing the cottage cheese?

I was talking to an older person a few days ago and he mentioned his body builder friends 'going crazy about protein' and 'washing their cottage cheese'.

A love cottage cheese, except for the fact that it is high on sodium.
Does any one know what 'washing the cottage cheese' is?

I rinse my cottage cheese through a strainer, leaving only the chunk casein. The whey in most commercial cottage cheeses is mostly water. maybe that is what they mean by washing?

No clue but its the best thing you can eat before bed time. Nice slow release of protein to supply your muscle with what they need while you sleep.

A personal favorite meal of mine is cottage cheese, a red delicious apple and diet pepsi.

Is this what you mean?
Washing your cottage cheese

Don't take this personal but if you would simply use google you could answer your own questions...

With all due respect bro, on Google search, those are the commercial methods for processing of cottage cheese.

There was only one relevant quote about a tri-athlete who used to wash his cottage cheese 'to wash away extra fat'. May be at that time, 1% fat cottage cheese was not available.

My thought was that probably people wash cottage cheese either to remove fat, or to remove salt.
I eat 1% fat cottage cheese, so fat is not a problem.
More important concern is salt, because high sodium tends to increase my BP and causes bloat.

I guess I have to cut down on cottage cheese.

Here are a few more: (I am a search engine junky) and a copy and paste expert. LOL

Sorry if I came accross as being a dick!

Huge thanks.
That was exactly what I was looking for.
I only checked first 2-3 pages on google search.

as long as you are drinking enough fluids, bloat from sodium should never really be an issue

One tub of cottage cheese has 3 gm of sodium, so it gives my whole day supply of sodium. It has only 78 gm of protein. So whatever else you eat, that is extra sodium.

If you drink a lot of water AND eat a lot of sodium, you will be pee'ing almost every hour.

I REALLY dont understand why even if things can be found on GOOGLE people cant come here and discuss about it.
IF you find a topic "silly" or without interest just do as I do ... pass over.

The question wasn't what do you think about washing cottage cheese it was do you know what washing cottage cheese is. And whatever you think my meaning was, your assumption, I still took the time to do a lot of research for the good long time member because if it is that important to him maybe I could learn something and guess what? I did both.
Why don't you take your own advice and if you don't like what I post why don't you just pass over it? Hmmmm?
Hope that helps you understand!

I'd say the whole point to washing the cottage cheese would be to remove any sodium that hadnt leached into the cottage cheese. Should cut sodium by quite a bit, i'd imagine.

I thought cottage cheese was whey protein, not casein.

I used to rinse cottage cheese. 1/2 cup had like 400mg of sodium so the whole tub was 1600mg. rinsing it and straining it for a few minutes would reduce the sodium alot. and the white creamy part is all whey protein so it wouldnt really matter. some people eat a few slices of fat free cheese before they sleep for the slow releasing protein. so the actual cheese itself is wat you really want. rinsing it will also make it taste extremely bland. you could drop a couple tbsp of anpb and mix it up. its actually pretty good.
