Just a few days ago in the gym i was doing deadlifts and halfway through my second set my back just tightened up and i had this sharp pain shoot up my back. What is this? I had this happen a few months ago and the doc told me i could have pulled something or possible aggravated a disc. I'm currently taking flexril and 600mgs ibuprofen to help the pain hope this gets better.

If anyone has any advice help a bro out

I had an injury like this happen duirng squats. Only thing is, it was in the middle of my back, it felt like pins and needles, I couldn't walk the next day, I can still feel some aggreation today, and it happened 5 years ago... but beyond the surface differences, it's the same. ;)

Today, I just have to train through it.... I am SUPER careful to watch my form... and I am also VERY SUPER careful to watch my form. :) I did take off around 2 weeks the last time i hurt it, and I also stayed away from any heavy back exercises for around a month or so... until I felt comfortable back in the saddle.

Hope that helped.

I need clarification on the deadlift first. I have realized, recently, that when SOME people say the are deadlifting, they mean they are RDLing (starting from the top).

I rarely do a full ROM deadlift, and even more rarely do them for reps. Be careful.
