Otherwise the people there will hate people in developed countries, wild immigration will occur (already started) and things will only get worse.
Now giving them cash is not helping them (and not helping us either)... It is merely teaching them how to beg...
That's where the problem lies. We need to rebuild the country and then teach them how to maintain and use infrastructures..
That's hard when the current adult generation in Afghanistan has only known war and fights.
So we need to make a massive commitment to these countries and actually go there and help them.
To those of you complaining about giving money to poorer people think that you could be bornin Somalia or Bengladesh and that you would certainly not be able to whine on EliteFitness
Damn good post. However, we are 22nd in the world in humanitarian aid giving. Countries with a lot smaller populations, and worse economies, give a lot more than we do.
The government loves to sell wolf tickets to the American public, who blindly believe that we are huge humanitarians. Wrong.
We have cut back on humanitarian aid budgets for years. Now, because we need to present ourselves as humanitarians, we are trying to change that. Other countries are well aware of our lack of concern, and though they will accept our aid, there is a distinct wall of mistrust there.
IMO, failure to help the poor (your post), creates opportunities for people like bin Laden to rally desolate, people to their causes...allow the UN to orchestrate how it's done....and we can take a step back....with a watchful eye. Instead of shelling out billions to puppet regimes like Israel, or Egypt, put the money where it's needed. Or if we're not going to contribute, clean up our own backyard.
