Do you stretch

Do you stetch before and after workouts. I used to do a lot of martial arts and my flexability was very good. Once I started working out 8 years ago, the stetching came to a stop. My muscles are so tight now, I can't touch my shoulder blades. I know stetching can help your muscles recover faster but they take up so much time, and doing them seems so girly now days. I see a lot of woman stetching, which is a good thing but very few guys.

Girly? hmmm..anyway:rolleyes:

Tom Platz could do full splits. I think flexability is important. Try doing stiff legged deads off a block with tight hamstrings. If you want to see stretching as a more 'masculine' practice, I can introduce you to a couple dozen of the most dangerous men you'll ever meet who stretch to some extent everyday. I wouldn't waste my gym time stretching, but at night and/or morning.

stretching and weight training go hand in hand. post workout is the best time to stretch when muscles are warm and pliable. at the minimum stretch-muscle movements should be performed for each body part trained which increase the muscle facia and can stimlate the IGF receptors.

Before, during, and after. And it's best to do about 5-10 minutes of mild aerobic excercise before you stretch.

I stretch, but not like I'm supposed too. Streching is good and does help the muscles quite a bit. Damn that is something that I will start doing right now.

Stretching is vital to injury prevention (even in young guys). I stretch for 5 minutes pre-workout, and 10-15 minutes post-workout.

I stretch after virtually every set.
Me too. In between sets my rest time is active resting (2-4 minutes depending on what exercise). I never just sit there and wait. I always stretch the worked muscles about a minute after the previous set. It has become a vital part of my work out. I am a lot more flexable than when I first started lifting.
