Do you like taking stimulants before you train?

Seems like before I train, when I take stimulants, I get more energy. Do you guys like to take them before you train? What do you recommend that I start using? I don't want to get addicted to stimulants, but I know I need them.

I’ve worked in sports medicine for many years, including roles in sports performance testing and rehab settings, and I’ve seen a lot of people become overly dependent on stimulants to get through workouts.

Feeling more energy with caffeine or pre-workout is common, but needing it every session usually points to something else that needs attention—most often sleep, recovery, stress, or nutrition.

My honest recommendation:

  • Don’t rely on stimulants as a daily requirement.
  • If you use them, keep it light and occasional.
  • Focus first on building natural energy through good sleep, proper hydration, and balanced meals.
  • If you feel you need stimulants to train, it’s better to adjust your program and recovery rather than keep increasing supplements.
You should be able to train effectively most days without depending on anything extra.
