DIY beauty :)

Just thought I'd start a thread on your little beauty tricks...

I will share a goodie: know all those $60-70 vitamin C beauty creams? I make my own.
Crush up a vitamin C tab and mix it with your favorite moisturizer. Just be conservative or you'll wind up with an acid peel!!!

I have crushed a bunch of them before in a little water and used this gritty mixture to exfoliate pre-waxing but it is HARSH and shouldn't be left on for more than a minute. VERY exfoliating and a lot like a spa peel.

Stay out of the sun if you're gonna try it. Feel free to PM me w questions -- I love this stuff!

Ok, I gave my secret up -- hook me up with some of yours?!

XO
Hey cutiebolic! DIY vit-c serum is a great idea and one I do myself. I would just like to suggest you use ascorbic acid powder from someplace like Buy Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Powder | PureBulk.com. The tablets you're crushing up contain fillers and binders, things you don't want in a serum. :)

I've used the powder before, but the crushed pills make a great exfoliating scrub. Hadn't thought to leave it on in a serum, though. Will try that!

I don't want to put a dampener on your beauty ideas but the homemade vitamin c is doing absolutely nothing for your skin. Vitamin c is one of the most unstable vitamins when it comes to skin care so once it is mixed into different creams or water, the strength becomes compromised. Not only this, but the skin is very smart. It doesn't allow just any old ingredient access into it's living layers and for good reason; our skin is our first line of defense against so many infections and illnesses. So unless the vitamin c is encapsulated in an appropriate carrier ingredient then it is doing nothing other than penetrating skin cells that are already dead. It may make ur skin feel nice, as a lot of creams and potions do, but it will ave no short term or long term benefit at a cellular level. Sorry to be a downer but I hate seeing people using products that they think are beneficial but in reality aren't doing anything :(

Interesting! No need to apologize. Tell me more. What kind of a "vector" would you suggest? I was under the impression that because vitamin C was both water and fat soluble it would permeate the cell membrane quite readily.

Not a secret but for before the gym or shirts that will leave sweat stains, use baby powder instead of deodorant
