i dont think its anykind of a marketing job building up the seals. the seals are what they are.. the elite as are the green berets, rangers etc. maybe you can squat 500# and they can do 250#.. but they also can do pullups till they puke, run till they puke swim miles and miles in cold ocean water, stay up all night and still shoot an asprin at 100 meters. these guys are elite man. sure watch the beginners on tv may give you an idea that some guys arnt making it.. but the ones that do, i got my money on them in the alley, and at knocking out a tank at 1000meters.i bet cause some guys are strong they think a swim and some running and pushups are a piece of cake.. thing is they do thousands of them along with tons of rope climbing obstical coursetraining .. man the list goes on and on.can you swim 50 meters underwater after a ton of exercises with no sleep?
these guys are gods!!
I wasn't saying that they weren't tough. They are.
And yes, the Navy uses them as a marking tool for recruiting purposes. There was even a Time magazine article about it interviewing the Admiral inn charge of recruitment who explained that they do exactly that. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until abut 1980'ish that they even aknowledged who were members of some of the teams. It was an Olympic Winter games where one of our bobsled teams was crewed by a couple of members of the teams, and they identified them on air as being SEALS.
But they are extremely far from being gods. What they are is total professionals. Trained to do something that most can't do. Before you start throwing around talk like that I suggest you read up on groups like the ROK Special Forces, the Royal Commandos, or the Air Force Pararescue teams. I would even venture to say that the French Foreign Legion training is at least as rigorous if not more so.
