dips, pushups, pullups

an unemployed buddy of mine asked me if doing 100 pullups and a ton of ab work on mon, wed, and fri, and then doing 100 dips and 300 pushups on tues thurs sat will build him up.
he said he seen on the military sites how they train doing these movements and they sure looked ripped and built. i told him about a site i heard about. stewsmith.com. he went to this site and seen navy seals looking very fit and ripped, so he is going to try it. now the seals and rangers do a lot more reps on these movements, so he said he'll start with these numbers and go from there. any opinions on this kind of training?almost like gymnastic training and those dudes are built..
can you get built doing these movements, and whats the min number of these 4 exercises you need to get that ripped look?
i didnt have an answer for him.

I do all three back to back to back in the morning after doing 30-45 mins of light cardio.... Do it bout 4-5 times a week and weight train in the evening.... I don't do the volume ur talking but I do 4 sets.... 5 wide grip pull ups 10 dips 10 leg rises rest and then repeat. Then I do abb work... It keeps me pretty fit.... Calastetics is the shit, but I don't know bout getting huge but ya u prolly look big the better the shape u get in.... My friends think I'm lying when I tell em I weight 185lbs lol

anyways I wouldn't just do calastetics unless I was in jail or somthing but ya I think they have there place.

Lol those Navy Seals hit up lots of lifting too, and a lot of them are on the roids. I'm planning on going for Army Rangers which are kind of like Seals out of water and I was reading lots of stories about their lifting and the roids they do. Private contractors (ie mercenaries) are notorious for pooping d-bol to kill boredom. That routine will get him pretty lean and mean though, before I join the army I'm going to have to go to a routine like that with no lifting.

I went threw reg basic training, air born training, rip training, path finder and so much more. When it comes to army training the only thing they give a flying fuck about in endurance. They want you to be able to go and go and go and go. That is all they give a fuck about. Nothing and I mean nothing to do with looks. Yes when you train like this and for this readon you will lose wai though.

bro i'm gonna have to disagree.
how are you gonna stay jacked eating mre's and hiking day in and out?
let alone work out with weights?
not gonna work out in basic, not gonna work out on long assignments, not gonna be eating like you are used to, gonna be running/hiking/humping gear...i fail to see how steroids could figure into being a ranger/seal/any sort of SF.
lean and mean not bulky and joosered

I agree with you, you need to be lean and mean not bulky, but I have heard over and over that SOME OF the bigger Seals do steroids to keep their muscle mass and stay agressive. For sure though the private contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan are juicing up and pumping iron to pass the time. They do have time to lift 2-3 days a week too as long as they are not deployed.

No offense, but I love how everyone loves to put the SEALS on some sort of idealistic pedestal. The Navy sure has done a great marketing job. They are good at what they do, no doubt, but their exercise programs are not some magic system designed to make you a friggin monster of destruction. In fact, if you ever watch shown about them on TV you'll notice that the average build is rather lean and certainly not huge massive muscles. These guys need to move like linebackers in the NFL.

And remember when the SEALS or Delta or the Rangers call 911 the Air Force Pararescue is who comes to save their asses. ;)

i dont think its anykind of a marketing job building up the seals. the seals are what they are.. the elite as are the green berets, rangers etc. maybe you can squat 500# and they can do 250#.. but they also can do pullups till they puke, run till they puke swim miles and miles in cold ocean water, stay up all night and still shoot an asprin at 100 meters. these guys are elite man. sure watch the beginners on tv may give you an idea that some guys arnt making it.. but the ones that do, i got my money on them in the alley, and at knocking out a tank at 1000meters.i bet cause some guys are strong they think a swim and some running and pushups are a piece of cake.. thing is they do thousands of them along with tons of rope climbing obstical coursetraining .. man the list goes on and on.can you swim 50 meters underwater after a ton of exercises with no sleep?
these guys are gods!!
