some days i get sick of water.. is diet coke okay.. i drank some coke zero today and dang it tasted so good.. Is that stuff okay to drink i hope so..

There's a couple different schools of thought on that...

Bottom line it is 0 calories.

But, it is not a source of water. You still need to get your water in for the day.

A recent study, which I am unable to cite, showed that diet coke drinkers actually gained more weight over a period of time than regular coke drinkers. Apparently, diet soda actually increases your appetite.

Maybe it's just that fat asses tend to always drink diet soda along with their cheeseburger deluxe and cheese fries. Who knows.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a couple cans a week at all, I think you're gonna see sub-optimal results if you make it your regular beverage of choice, or even do a can a day. It's putting a lot of junk into your body.

But as a treat when u need to kill a craving, go for it. I'm a diet mountain dew guy myself. hehe.

I drank 32 oz of diet coke everday to keep me from killing people due to my low carb cutting...ive lost 12 lbs this week no shit...

I probably drink one 12oz diet soda a day on average.

I prefer Sprite Zero though... no caramel coloring... so i think it's "less bad" lol

that coke zereo is so fucking good it taste like the real shit amazing or maybe its cause i have not ate junk in forever

Point blank. Diet soda may cause a bloat feeling. However, it will not add weight. Zero Calories. Your body cannot absorb the sugar content in "Splenda" which is what Coke Zero uses. Chemist's altered sugar's genetic make up by adding another CHO- molecule to the end of the strand of sugar, so your body passes it through much like fiber. So, drinking diet coke will not ULTIMATELY cause you to gain weight.

BUT!!!

Your brain feels the wannabe sugar and thinks it needs more, sometimes causing people with low self control tend to eat fattening and sugary foods.

Solution:

Drink moderate amounts of diet soda, and eat your healthy food.

doesn't that aspartame convert to insulin which converts to hidden carbs and thus gets shuttled as normal calories? Dr Atkins talks about it in his book. i forget the actual details, but it's not quite 0 calories as people think.

The sodium content in cola could cause water retention. I had a diet pepsi fetish but once I gave it up, the pounds melted off me! It is ok every now and then, but don't make it a daily habit. Try adding some crystal light to your water.

I agree with the fattys eating lard with the diet coke.
Also, all the bodybuilders, including this years mr.o Jay C drink that shit all the time.

that is interesting because when i drink things like that i do crave products with sugar.
i tend to avoid any soda.
i also avoid anything that is carbonated. i have been told carbonation slows fat loss.

In your prior life, did you drink allot of soda???

it's a habit.. if doing the keto diet it helps allot..

being a body builder they don't put anything in that will hurt them..

with that said...

hell yea drink up.. but it = 0 water intake...

I drink at least 1-2 a day (diet pepsi's)...I drink that all the way up until 5 days before a show...

There are numerous studies that prove ZERO insulin spikes with atificial sweetners...And if you want to proove it to your self, drink a liter of coke one day, and a liter of diet coke the next, the regular coke will make you puke, several blind studies prove the theory that artificial sweetners cause insulin activity is false

excellent, i've been wondering about this. i still drink plenty of water, but i started getting worried when my diet coke intake was like 3-4 a day. i will try to cut back but damn its hard. the weird thing is that i never really craved regular coke all that much, but when i got the cravings for something with flavor, diet coke hit the spot and has become sort of an addiction. i now look foward to drinking them, and it is often the first thing i think about when i wake up in the morning.

i dont feel quite so guilty after reading this thread, but i still hate the fact that something has me by the balls. all that carbonation has to be doing something bad to me.

I am a huge honest tea fan. The have a lot of varieties and never use any artifical ingredients. The peach tea is fantastic and only has 85 calories per 16 oz. bottle.

Might be able to kick the coke habit if you go that route.

I couldn't agree more, especially at night before or after dinner. That is when I get the worst cravings. The sweet flavor usually does it for me. If you're getting at least 1-1.5 gallons of water in a day I say go for it.

i can't stand disgusting acid water. i like the corn syrup taste of coke. if you're going to drink coke, have at least the taste. coke zero is a nice compromise. zero calories AND taste.

The only thing that concerns me about diet drinks is that they have been linked to increased risk of metabolic syndrome. 34% higher chance of developing metabolic syndrome if you drink at least one diet drink daily.

Clearly there are other things at play here besides just insulin. Of course, metabolic syndrome is more than just insulin resistance, it's also obesity, high cholesterol/low LDL, and hypertension, which could mean that people drinking diet drinks might eat more and be more overweight (or they could be drinking diet drinks because they are overweight). However, this study took those effects into account when calculating the increased risk.
