i personally do them on back day with just heavy d/b shrugs or barbell shrugs,my traps respond well so it works for me,some also like doing them on shoulder day.go with d/b shrugs HEAVY and throw em' in on back day..see how you like it.
right, on back day do heavy deadlifts and barbell rows, they will make those fuckers grow.
on shoulder day, do d/b presses, as heavy as you can for 6 reps, and upright rows.
then after which ever day hurts your traps more, do shrugs, i do them after delts.
I do them after shoulders with upright rows and d/b shrugs.....do d/b shrugs cause you can shrug the dumbbells higher which hurts them more. Also ive heared that reverse shrugs with the barbell behind is good for the higher trap part. If you really cant make them grow movements like cleans and high pulls are killer trap exercises.
I would suggest trying them with delts and back for a few days and decide which you prefer. I personally like delts... but its hard to do heavy deads on back day if your not working traps on the same day..
I woulg go w/ monstar, experiment and learn. Myself, I do them on back day. I like to use a few olympic lifts, so traps are invlolved heavily. For traps generally I'll do snatch grip shrugs.
It depends. Some people can incur trap growth just by doing deads, rows, and cleans. Most of us aren't so fortunate (nor am I). Traps were always a problem area for me but I've made great gains in the past few years by training them with heavy shrugs and prioritizing them.
If you require prioritization, hit them directly and heavily and to hell with all this "Just do deads and they will explode bro!" bullshit. That may work for some people but probably not you from the way you've described it.
Focus on heavy, straight up and down movement...no rotation. That will shear the hell out of your shoulder joint and it begs for an injury.
There really isn't that much of a difference between using DB or BB. It's more important to go hard, go heavy, use straps and a belt, go home, rest, eat, and grow.
BTW, I prefer to work them with shoulders but that's my personal preference. Try them both out and pick the one that works best for you.
luckily for me I do an morning workout with my back and on the same day I hit shoulders. My traps are already a little fatigued by the time I do shoulders but I finish them off after the pm workout of delts with heavy dumbbell shrugs and barbell shrugs.
