dating someone from a different race.

You know what's weird? Almost all my life I thought there was only 2 races: white and black. I thought all asians, hispanics, etc were still considered white. I had no idea they were separate races. I guess it never mattered much to me what someone's race was. Do you think that's because of how I was raised? I have no idea.

Same here, then I discovered Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. were referred to as "yellow" which I always found strange since they don't look yellow :whatever:

I went to a school where 75 % + were either Vietnamese or Cambodian, so it's not exactly out of the ordinary for me to be around Asians, although I never dated one. But I thought some of them were cute. I'm mixed, half Dominican and half Canadian, and race is just not an issue for me. I consider myself white. I'm pretty light skinned.
I had a couple Jamaican boyfriends. I also dated a Cree guy. I married a guy who is French/Irish.
Eventually everyone will be brown. lol.

In middle school we were taught there were only 3 different races.

White(Caucasoid)
Black (Negroid)
Yellow (mongoloid)

I don't know if the classifications have changed since then. Subgroups of that were considered ethnicity. Indians(from India) actually fell under Caucasian.

But Hispanic is NOT a race, even if they did change it

I also get annoyed at one of my best friends who, when asked, will say she's Hungarian, Chinese and Jewish, as if 'jewish' is a race or nationality.

That being said, I've dated few African/Middle Eastern/European guys, no Asians, and the majority of my exes have been hispanic (obviously referring to dating ethnicities outside of my own, not races).

Interesting. I never realized that. This sparked me to read more on wiki on race and ethnicity in the United States. I guess I never thought much about the difference between race and ethnicity.
 
I was with a man of a different race for several years, he was actually from a different country, and it did not turn out well at all.

I've slept with the rainbow, but I've only ever 'dated' white women. I'm no racist, but when you have a very strong preference for blonde hair and blue eyes, that's just the way it's going to turn out.
 
Also, shocked at those of you who didn't really differentiate between races until later in life. I remember my friends and I had a coloured belt system, mirroring martial arts belts, to denote girls to different races we'd hit:

white belt: white girl
black belt: black girl
yellow belt: asian girl
brown belt: indian or hispanic girl
red belt: native girl

It doesn't take long to get all your belts if you're going to a large school in a big culturally diverse city :)

And for the record, if aliens had landed, I'd have made it my mission to bang one so I could add a green belt like Captain Kirk did in that one episode of Star Trek.
 
In elementary school we had primarily only whites and blacks (i lived in a white neighborhood and the blacks were bussed in from other towns). I didnt have much exposure to hispanics or asians or whatever else is out there. The church we went to was all white and black (about 50/50) and no other races.

Then in high school, i moved to Connecticut Fairfield County and my town was most definitely ALL white. The only few black kids we had were in a special program and they came from NYC but there was like less than 10 of them. I had one friend in HS who was Mexican (she was adopted by a rich white family).

I guess my lack of exposure to other races was the percursor to my ignorance. But, in addition to that, we were raised not to be racist at all and not to judge people by the color of their skin. My Dad was very adamant about that. Race was never an issue growing up.
 
I just didn't know. I"m a half breed and we never spoke of race. Someone actually pointed out to me that I was interracial in late junior high or early hs.
 
I grew up in LA and there are so many different races. As a hispanic(oh yes)you grow up knowing how different eveyone is outside of east LA. Our town is like a city of it's own and when you travel outside of it everything changes. You see it from how they talk, act, and dress. Race isn't an issue when dating a women for me but settling down with one is. It's just easier to date a latina. No conflicts when it comes to understanding each other and when it comes to family getting along. Never stopped me from tapping others of different background though. ;) Cum one, cum all.
 
Went to private school for a couple years and public school for a couple in high school. The ratio was different between the two with the black and white kids but not by much in that district. Both had blacks, whites, asians(mostly Vietnamese). Never had a problem with race, I was raised to treat everyone equally. I currently have friends from Iran(persian), Honduras, black, Vietnamese, etc. My girlfriend/babymamma is black. About the only time I get stairs or Shit talk is from young black men and old white people(usually the redneck types). Also the occasional racist comment from a white person who doesn't know I'm dating a black girl, but you can't fix ignorance(Ive seen it with all the races, because my Vietnamese friends parents don't like our black friends, blacks parents are too keen on the whites or Iranian, and so on). I think most of the time she just catches their eye cause she's 6' and hot so she stands out so they stare. My family loves her and has no problem with it and her family seems cool with it. Now I imagine there are some places that it could be a problem because there is still a bad racist problem in a lot of places with all the races.

ethnicity is more cultural as i understand it

race is more "genetic" lolol

like base skin tones:
dark
pink
yellow

pink basetan is euro and russian, native (north) american and norse and all those piggies,

dark is african, indian, native south american

yellow is all the philipinos orientials, chinies/japenises

I started with Guile and then I moved onto Ken as my favorite.
 
I'm black and I was the only black kid in my high school. It wasn't bad. I only date white women. I have had a few Asians though. You wouldn't believe the looks I get sometimes.

The funny thing is black women are more racist than most of the whites out there. My girlfriend 'stole another black man'. I have white neighbors who I get along great with, and a black couple, and the wife hates my guts. Go figure.
 
I dated a jewish guy years ago, huge asshole, made more money than I made (I made 30% of what he made)and always said he had no money and we should just stay home and yet he was always buying shit for his car, when I saw his new 22" rimsI almost fucking killed ihm because if I paid for going out he was all for it.... stingy fucker....
 
Pretty much every guy I've ever dated has had brown hair and blue or green eyes. I dated one guy very briefly who was salvadorian and one guy who had strawberry blonde hair, and the guy I just started seeing has blonde hair. But that's like 6 months of dating between them vs. 10-11 years with guys who have the brown/blue or green combo. Guess I have a type.

I'm whitey, she's asian (chink). We were introduced by a mutual friend (my roommate at the time) at a bar. I was in shape, yes. Jacked and desirable. lol!

We've been together over 6 years, married over 4 years. We have two beautiful little hapa kids now. Boy, 3 years and girl, 3 months. Mixed kids are the cutest, that is fact.

My daughter will be born in August. I'm white and my GF is black. Looking forward to a beautiful baby girl. We have a few mixed couples we hang out with along with my brother( his fiance is Hispanic) and all their kids are adorable.
