Cutting - caloric ratios and quantity

Hi all - so I'm sure this topic has been discussed many a time around here, so forgive my newbie-ness.

I understand the ratios for dieting/cutting from a calorie perspective (ie protein/fats/carbs)...my question is more about quantity. Specifically, how many grams of protein should I be eating to maintain my muscle during my dieting cycles? (without any gear)

Is there a formula for it?...ie, body weight * XYZ grams? I have read anywhere from 1 gram per lb to 3 grams per pound (3? are you kidding me?...that is like 700 grams of protein a day on a low calorie diet?...i don't find that even possible)

ANyways, I"m 6'2 and 225 lbs....12-14% body fat...trying to get under 10 and hopefully to around 8 %....but obviously, would like to keep the muscle I've worked hard to acquire.

Thanks!
