Current T-Mag article featuring JJFigure..

Uh - I think you left someone out. Slinky's featured too, and is a favorite of T-Mag, for obvious reasons. I was looking for the tire flipping picture though - maybe it will be in part 2?

Last night, one of the strength coaches hollered out - "you're in Testosterone", which I mistook for "you're on testosterone". I almost had to kick him around a little for that one. :-)

:FRlol:

NICE ARTICLE! Kudos, ladies!

slinky sez: "the various women’s exercise mags. They have photos of women performing exercises literally with a look of serenity on their faces."

PRICELESS!!! Omigod that is so true! :lmao:

Excellent article. I saved it as a favorite. Also loved seeing the pics. Slinky & JJ you both are an inspiration.

Did anyone else find it ironic that many of the pics were of ladies doing exercises like kickbacks with very little weight and "serene" expressions? :p

The interviews were great tho. Good work JJ and Slinky!

Slinky saved us by putting in a picture of her doing push presses. I personally would never consider doing kickbacks...

Slinky is Patricia Smith aka Wonder Butt.

YES!!! Even in the article it's mentioned that compound exercises and oly-lifting should be performed MORE. Then they post pics of wee isolation movements

Okay...*breathing deeply*. However that, glad you all liked it. I've been pushing HARD to get more articles about women and strength training. Next one I'd love to see would be a roundtable with various female strength athletes. Maybe our own spatts and Bigguns thrown in the mix. I'll keep ya all posted on that.

In the meantime, if you truly liked that article: sound off to the editors! When they see that there's an interest, they'll post more like this in the future!

:D

Here's a slinky quote:

"And for some reason, I believe that whole "you should be able to talk" while performing cardio is applied to weight training. Many women that go into the gym believing "working out" means more time should be devoted to conversing and "making friends" in the gym rather than actually training. I see it all the time, women talking during their sets and between their sets, never focusing on the task at hand. A lot of them think that if they were to up the intensity, they’d get ugly, bulky muscles."

What's really amazed me is this is an issue with the female athletes at the college I'm helping at. The women talk for 10 minutes between sets as the men are just going at it. I honestly don't understand it. It's like they don't care that strength training will help them perform better in their sports. I may have to train there one night just so they can see how women are really supposed to train. :-)

Well, JJ had many gems to highlight and remember, too.

Geez, thanks all. Part 2 is today, I believe!

Do you find it odd that they add 30-40 minutes to their workouts in talk time, but then claim to not have time to workout?

Part 2 was cool! I'm going to have to print it out.

I get women asking me how I lost the weight (35 lbs), blah blah blah & I tell them. Then they say "well I don't want to get big" and I have to ask if I look big & they say no. Then I tell them how much I lift & they look shocked.

I think a lot of people (women & men) just don't want to put forth the effort involved. America has become very lazy.

Hey, I really enjoyed the articles! Slinky, you're such the hottie! I knew you had the booty, but damn girl! Was that your man sitting down in the "push press" pic? Just curious since he's a new member here...where has he been? Still lurking?! ;)

Anyhow, a few things caught my attention...mainly diet issues. I definitely prefer Soy milk over regular milk. It doesn't taste "chemically" (to me) like reg. milk does...I don't "drink a glass of it", but put it in my cereal, oatmeal and other foods, etcetera. The article led me to believe that soy products were not a good choice and I was curious if you could shed some light on that.

Another item was the discussion on post-workout shakes...I found it to be a bit contradictory. I honestly have really dropped the ball on my post-workout meals/shakes. I usually end up out of the gym pretty late and by that time it's too late to fit 2 meals in, so I stick with a solid meal afterwards. Can someone please clarify for me....pretty please.

Thanks:kiss:

I'm bulking, so that post workout shake helps me get my kcalories in. If you only have time for one or the other, I personally would choose the whole food meal.

After seeing MS's conditioning, I'd say don't be scared of soy. After all, that's her (and Steel's) primary source of protein. I personally don't intake much soy, but that's because I get whey isolate for free from my sponsor, and I don't drink milk (don't care for it). I haven't tried soy milk yet, but I tend to shy away from drinking my kcalories (unless it's wine); one of these days I'll try it though.

Excellent articles! Good information, a few laughs, and lots of inspiration. Both of you ladies look great!

And T-mag looks like something I'm going to have to read more of.

When I work out, I'm pretty much the only serious woman in there, too. I'm not sure who looks at me more strangely...the men I'm working out with, or the ladies on the other side of the aisle on the Nautilus circuit. (BTW, I have no trouble making my "mean" face when I'm doing an intense set...nothing serene about it...though the only noise I make is my exhaling.)

I'm also curious about the alleged thyroid suppression of soy protein. As a vegetarian, I get a lot of my protein from soy (also dairy, eggs, & nuts & whole grains & legumes). Do I need to be concerned about this?

Nonerz:

Heh...that man in the pic is actually Tod Becraft. Our fearless leader in all things strongman. I have pics of my bf in my gallery. And yeah, I got him to FINALLY begin postin' around these here parts. 'Bout damn time, too :)

As for post-workout shakes, I still drink it even after a late session. I need to. Now, if it's a issue with you; you can do what I sometimes do. Which is drink half of my post workout during and the remaining half after. My post workout is either a mixture of dextrose/malto dextrin mixed in with protein or the pre-made "Surge". BUT if you're able to fit in a solid meal afterwards, that's actually a good thing. So I think you're doin' okay.

The issue of soy should be more of a concern for men than women. But I still really limit my soy intake. I actually don't like the taste of soy milk - primary reason I don't drink it.

Regarding soy: Isoflavines...that's what the debate is about right? Gotta do some digging on this one. I guess I'm one of those freaks who actually prefers the taste of soy milk to regular milk!

Anyhow, thanks for the input JJ & Slinky about the post workout shakes. I think I'll add them back in the equation again...a girl has gotta get her protein!
