Why do people do this to each other?

I'm in the change room last night, and 2 ladies start talking..

LadyInDenial: "So I was at my boyfriends place last night, and he wanted to take my bodyfat percentage.. I haven't had it done in forever so I had no idea what it would be. Anyway, he said it was 21%. But that doesn't sound right to me.."

SpreaderOfBadInformation: "21% is GREAT!! Women should be between 20 and 25%, anything lower than that is bad!"

LadyInDenial: "Really?"

SpreaderOfBadInformation: "YES!! If you were to get under like 18%, that'd be so dangerous, it's really unhealthy".

LadyInDenial: "Really? Oh.. well, I think his measurement was a bit off anyway.."

SpreaderOfBadInformation: "It's often off by 2 or 3 percent.."

LadyInDenial: "Yeah, I'm probably actually 18%".

No way in hell she was 18%.. even 21% was generous I thought...

OMG!!!! WHO is teaching people this stuff? I wanted so badly to correct the mis-information, but they seemed the type to get all bent out of shape, so I kept my mouth shut. 18% is dangerous.. lol.. Ladies, we all better stop right now before anyone gets hurt!

Yep, they seemed to want to believe that, which is why I kept my yap shut.

It's kinda like this conversation:

"He didn't call me!"
"Well.. he's probably just afraid of commitment, for sure he likes you"
"Yeah, that's probably it"

Drives me nuts.. when did it become SO horrible for someone not to like us, or to be a bit overweight, that we cannot even speak of it or acknowledge it? Silly..
