Around 1am last night when I was working the door at the bar , a pair of bike cops stopped in to check on things. This is a usual thing on weekends; we usually see them several times a night. They were standing right outside the door and I stepped out and was bullshitting with them a little bit. Some guy in his early 20's sat down on my bar chair right inside the door and started saying- loud enough for the officers to hear him- "Cops suck dick." After they heard this a couple of times, they walked over and warned him to shut his mouth. The idiot started up again a minute later, and after hearing a few more times that they were ropesuckers, they walked in, grabbed him by his shirt, and shoved him out the door. They slapped the cuffs on him and he was like, "What the hell are you arresting me for?!"
"Drunken and disorderly conduct."
"What?! It's freedom of speech man. And I was in a bar- you're supposed to get drunk in a bar."
"Tell it to the judge, buddy."
They called up a squad car and a minute later he was on his way to city jail.
"That's 'POP procedure'- 'Pissing Off the Police.'", one of the cops said to me afterward when we were talking.
These guys that think that they're going to be protected by the letter of the law when they're around cops are some naive motherfuckers, man. They have a huge amount of discretion, and when it's their word against yours, you're pretty much fucked anyway.
Incidentally, the arresting officer dealt with my little brother the week before last. They got a disturbance call from my bro's neighbors because he and his roomies were playing the bongos real loud around a small bonfire in their backyard. When the cops walked up, they were all inside and in the process of rolling up a joint. They watched the joint get rolled and then knocked on the door. My bro's roomie thought it was friends and said, "Come on in." Big mistake. So in walk the cops, and one dude had this fucking joint in mid-puff
They confiscated a little under a half ounce of weed, two or three pipes, and a 2 foot bong. They gave everybody hell, scared them, threatened them with jail, etc. But nobody mouthed off to them, and this cop knew my bro was my bro (for better or worse- I guess for better). Although he did ask my brother if he'd been with me when I got my DWI, and said, "Casavant sure is something else when he gets drunk, isn't he?" 
Noone got charged with anything.
