Confused on Squats

I've been told two different things. To build mass by doing squats I've been told to do 5 sets of 5 reps and I've also been told to do 1 set of 20 reps. What should I be doing? My max squat is 195 pounds (I'm only 142 lbs. w/ skinny legs - gimme a break). If you suggest 1 set of 20 reps... what weight should I be squatting with that?
 
I like Heavy Squats.

I would honestly just increase your strength now ... Id do sets of

10, 8, 6 and 6 See what is heavy for you this mght be 155, 165, 175

Everyone is different, so you need to experiment a little and find out what works for you. For myself both work so for eight weeks I will do one routine then switch to another keep your body guessing and that will cause growth.

Yesterday
135 for 20
155 for 20
175 for 20
185 for 20
155 for 20
Be ready to drop the weight if you are gonna do high reps i normally do 315 for 10-12,man oh man these kicked the shit out of me cause my body isn't use to it....
 
I normally alternate between reps and weights

This past week I did 5 sets of 12 with 225

The week before that I did 5 sets of 5 reps
pyramiding the weights up to about 365 for me.
Do whatever is best for you, ensure that you go parallel to get the most out of the exercise. By the way, the high reps workout is worse for me than the weights, feel like puking by the time I'm done,

I've read an article in Ironman about how Tom Platz did squats at times; Timed. I've been real bad about "routines" and am trying different techniques, but all techniques need a break-in time to figure out your "weight". Last week I did timed squats for 2 Min with 195 lbs on the smith machine (for safety reasons). It was a puker. The article on Platz said he did it for 20 Min. I know I am totally unable at this point for that kind of intensity, but I think the idea has merit.
