computer people

IT, IS, network engineers, software programmers, dipwads, whatever your job title, you are dumb!

we have been trying to connect two offices for a month now to no avail. we decided to let bot the software programmer and the IT dumbass to talk to each other and see what the problem is. well they both were here last week and supposedly the offices were connected. turns out that, even though they both were physically here to work together, they didnt communicate proplerly so. one was thinking "one LAN" while the other was thinking "two LANs".

and here i am with one hair left on my head wondering why my cheap boss, who has over 2 million dollars, just doesnt hire competible computer people. then it dawns on me:

THERE IS NO SUCH FUCKING ANIMAL!!

Just cause YOUR computer people are dumbasses, doesn't mean ALL computer people are.

I for one, am a friggin genius. :)

competible computer people??
He obviously doesn't hire people who can spell either.

i used to work for some doctors a few years ago. they hired a coporation to manage their office. during both those phases, they had differnet IT guys. all were dipwads. im telling you, the IT field doesnt produce smart people

to preven from looking like a dumbass again, you might try looking at a dictionary once in awhile before you speak: competible/compatible- same word, same origin, one letter that makes them differ form each other

oh and my boss is a female :) a pregnant one :(

typos and not knowing words in the english language are two different things son

Well, for every "dumbass IT person" story you come up with there are probably 10k "dumbass end user" stories. I have a piece of software that runs in over three hundred facilities wordwide. I get about three support calls a year and they all revolve around the dumbass end user not doing what they were told on multiple occasions.

I understand...just giving you a hard time. I love when chatters call me son. It makes me feel young again. :)

well see here is the difference. most end users know didly squat about computers because they have never been taught the basics or never had a PC to be familiarized with them. however, people in the IT field have neen taught in one way or another. and yet, they always seem to not correct the problem or make a new problem.

lets be honest here. if most end users knew the basics, there wouldnt be a need for so much support right? but my problem here isnt support. i know enough about computers to fix them whenver something breaks down. its LANs that i dont know anything about

That is so unfair! I graduated top of my class. I had a 4.0. I am damn good at my job. I never leave until everything is done properly. I check once, twice and maybe even three times. My door is always open if there is a problem and I am very approachable. The truth is the economy sucks. If you weren't in IT before everything went downhill, chances are yes, you are an inexperienced person. The money they are paying us is so sad, that only people fresh out of school will accept it.

Yeah, so dumb, all those computer people.

Bill Gates = complete moron. Only worth $35.36 billion. Bet he wishes he went into a different field. Clearly a dumbass!

Lol, it doesnt mean "consistent". It doesnt mean anything. See for yourself:

Its because IT people are basically mechanics. It doesnt take any great skill or talent, you dont need a full liberal arts education, you just have to know the tech stuff. I know high school dropouts who are in IT.

anabolic,

You are right and wrong. Some people are mechanics, as you say. These are the hardware people. Most only get A+ certified and call it a day. There is a whole other world out there. And yes, you do need atleast a 4 year degree for some positions.

Well yeah, but you dont se to many mechanical engineers getting laid off, do you? IT as a science isnt that prohibitive so theres too many people in it for the demand.

Bill Gates stole alot of things. He also stole the GUI from Apple. But that doesn't make him an idiot. He's a smart business man.

perhaps if i rephrased my question again? look in a real dictionary, not on the net

anabolic,

You are right but I find most that got layed off are the ones who were making over 100K and doing nothing. The field is in horrible shape right now. I don't see it getting any better. Regardless though, the point of the thread was that all computer people are stupid, when that's not true. Most are just inexperienced.

Today, I am writing an application that turns high school dropout syntax into legible discourse. It's almost done.

That is so true, your problem is that you are an idiot. It appears that your company does hire consistently. They hire computer support that is commensurate with the intellectual capacity of the peons who use them. Buy a calculator and a typewriter.

its not support kid, its LAN. i dont know shit about LANs otherwise the problem would have been fixed by now

1. In my situation the reason I get support calls from moron end users is they choose not to write down critical information. They are given a number with a unique user id and password for the 3rd party that provides their EDI mailbox. There is a hard copy bright red document telling them to copy and store the info. They also have a readme with the software as well as a prompt when they go to the screen where they enter the information. Finally, an account rep calls them after we ship the software to determine "customer satisfaction" and tell them to keep a hard copy of the info as well. Yet, we still have morons who fail to follow simple directions calling me because, "our software doesn't work after we upgraded to a new machine.". I have no fucking idea what their unique info might be and they need to contact their EDI provider if they fuck up and don't write down a hard copy.

2. You often get what you pay for. If you got a network guy from an MCSE mill with no experience for a job that pays $12.00 an hour then you deserve what you get. Also, asking a programmer to solve a wan/lan network issue is like asking a general practicioner to do brain surgery, not a smart idea. The fact IT was so hot in the late 90's attracted a lot of people motivated solely for monetary gain with little "love" for the job. Find yourself a true "computer geek" and you won't have a problem.

BTW, I've worked with an owner of a 50 million dollar business who bought a $300.00 second hand e-machine from the "guy on 2nd shift who knows a lot about computers and is my IT guy" to run his order system. I actually had to teach him how to navigate windows and copy/paste over the phone and guide him through a basic install. Likewise, the "power user" is most often the biggest pain in the ass to work with because "they know a lot about computers" and second guess someone who understands what is actually going on.

1. as i stated, there are alot of dumb end users but that is because they have no training on PCs. also, it might be new employees who have no idea how that entire procedure works.

2. we didnt hire a software programmer to do our LAN (he charges too much for that). we hired someone who connects LANs for this building. we need both of them to talk to each other so we can make the software work in both offices.

there are more dumb IT people than there are end users...% wise

he knows how to do LANs but its not his job hence the higher charges. but we need him to help with the LAN so both offices can use the same software. how hard is it to understand that? i know you cant be that dumb

Moron: A person of mild mental retardation.

Idiot: A person of profound mental retardation.

Why quibble over classifications? Instead we can all just compromise and agree on imbecile: "A person of moderate to severe mental retardation having a mental age of from three to seven years and generally being capable of some degree of communication and performance of simple tasks under supervision" There, that works nicely...

dude you kidding me? i made my last boss more money than anyone else he ever had. more than enough to cover my yearly wage. but i understand that people with little brain cells resort to name calling when they know they have been owned so its cool ;)

You really are kinda dumb, I've seen no evidence of ownage. Although your retarded ass has been owned by everyone who happened upon the thread.

Code,

You are awesome!!!

Aside from that Depressive you need to stop generalizing people...period. I am really sorry things aren't working out for you. I feel your frustration. It sucks when, because of people's incompetence things do not get down. However, that does not give you the right to trash people. There are alot of IT folks on here, and it's just downright insulting. If you were in NY I would offer my services to help you. Hopefully you can find some other decent people. Good luck! Keep your chin up! It'll get done....eventually! :)

1. I've worked with/for several fortune 500/1000 companies and every company puts their people through computer training. They actually have large portions of their "training division" staff devoted to it. In small companies the training is lacking but that isn't the end users fault, it's the employer. Secondly, these small companies generally have no way to gauge the competency of an IT professional. There are dumbasses in every field and hiring the "lowest bidder" has never been the best way to get a good job done. We've done countless disaster recoveries for this very reason, Indian programmers were indirectly responsible for the best profit sharing check I ever received.

2. Then why are you bitching about the programmer if the guy you hired to do the LAN screwed up? Did you hire a reputable company or just some guy who hung out his shingle and claims a great deal of knowledge/experience? I bet he worked pretty cheaply as well?

As for your final statement, I've literally worked with hundreds of IT professionals and thousands of end users. In my experience the idiocy among end users is far more rampant and pervasive than IT professionals. Most IT professional idiocy stems from a lack of experience while I've worked with trained end users who have been administrative assistants for years and still need to be told how to cancel a print job. The true IT idiot will generally be stuck at low level support positions and won't be setting up LAN's/WAN's if it's a reasonably sized IT company.
