Competition Hair Styles

Ok, for some reason I'm stressing about this. My comp is this Saturday, and I'm not sure what the heck to do with my hair. It's a little longer than shoulder length, and I'd rather have it in some kind of "updo" so that it's out of the way. But I've noticed most of the girls wear their hair down, or mostly down. Also, I don't really have anyone to do it up on the morning of the show. Anyone have suggestions on this?

Hey girl, what category are you in?

Don't stress :)

It depends on what looks best on you, and what goes well with what your wearing, and of course how you feel most comfortable.

I've wore my hair down, half up, 2 ponytails, all back in 1 ponytail, curly and straight. I did different hair (looks) for the different rounds.

How did you do that?

I was actually wondering what to do to. My hair is long half way down my back.

I'm doing figure. Just stressing about the little things, you know, now that it's only a few days away. I usually wear my hair down to work and stuff. But working out or whatever, I wear it in a ponytail. I just think I'd rather have it up off my shoulders and away from my face.

Most of the figure girls seem to wear it down. Also gives you that "flip" motion to do too. Just make sure that you do the flip at the appropriate point in your qtr turns -- remember even on the side turns because you want the judges behind you to see the back you worked so hard for.

But I agree - you should try both up & down & see which looks better or equivalently, makes you feel more confident on stage :)

omg.. the hair flip :worried:

I decided to wear mine down... Huge mistake on my part being i was already so freaking nervous. I wish i'd have put it up.. would have been one less thing for me to worry *forget* about whilst I was trying to remember to breath and smile ;)

Actually as soon as I posted that I thought about that. It is one more thing to deal with. And you DO need to practice your qtr turns WITH the flip if you intend to have your hair that way. It should be second nature because there is so much going through your mind (or absolutely nothing at alll!) when you are on stage that you can't assume you will remember. It is part of the presentation and shows who is 1) confident and 2) who came prepared.

Another practical thought, if you tend to sweat a lot, you might want to get the hair up & out of the way so you don't have that soaked look around your face or on the ends where it might be sticking to your back & making your protan run :)

I knew I would get some good feed back from you guys on this. I do think it will be just one more thing to worry about when I'm up there. Remembering to stay tight, smile, and all that stuff, I don't want to have to remember to flip my hair, or move it out of the way. I'm going to get my sister to help me practice some different ways to put my hair up, she's good at that stuff. Hoefully, we can come up with something simple that will look good.

I had lots and lots of time between rounds. Like the last show, I had my hair in 2 ponytails, hair straight for the 1st round, then 2nd round I put it half up and curled the back alittle, I had 3 hours to wait around in my bikini so instead of going nuts I played with my hair lol. And then the 3rd round was the following day so I woke up at 6am and drop curled all my hair and left it down this style took forever though, I didn't realize how much hair I have. lol

How do you feel most comfortable? What ever you do, do not have your hair in your face, they want to be able to see your pretty face.

Well, it's looking like I'll be doing both Figure & BB...........so I'm considering wearing my hair up in a French Twist...

My hair is shoulder length, so it's not long enough to sweep to the side & I don't want to hide my shoulders....
