Co-Ed or Women Only?

Which do you girls prefer? I had to join a Riviera Women's Fitness Club some time ago and I hatethis place! I had been going to co-ed gyms for years and feel much more comfortable in a place where I know if I need a spot, there will be someone there who can handle spotting me (esp. when I go heavy). Also, this place is crammed full of cardio equipment and very little free weights. I went today and checked out another gym (co-ed) and I am seriously considering joining, even though I have ~7 months left on my current membership.

K, rant over. Thanks for your opinions! ;)

Why did you HAVE to join a women's gym?

I would never join one.. even if I got a free membership..

When I join a gym I base it on whether or not it has the equipment I need - now as long as it HAS the equipment I need - I wouldn't care if it was all female, coed etc.....

But - usually - the gyms with the equipment are coed....

For me, I enjoy going to an all women's gym only b/c first off it has all the regular equipment as far as free weights (if not more availability of using the weights....) and for the longest time I was intimidated of cutting in on the whole boys club at my college gym, but thats just me.

IMHO, unless the all women's gym consisted of the ladies I met & talk to on here, I would NOT be able to stand it one bit.

The lack of free weights itself would cause me to change.

I got over my fear of others as soon as I started seeing results. Not saying you have this problem, but you go to the gym for you, not for what others think of you. Put on a baseball cap, throw on your headphones and focus on YOUR workout.

I live in Pensacola and when the storms hit here, the gym I was going to, was pretty much destroyed. I have not had much luck finding a gym that (1) was convenient to where I live and work, (2) was within a reasonable price range.

This Riviera gym was supposed to open up a family fitness center close by but ended up building about 30 miles away. :( The YMCA did not open back up for about a year (I think) otherwise I would have joined there.

This is the first and last time I will join a women's only gym. The more I think about it, the more I want to just go ahead and join this other "True" gym. What's $100 or so when one is not happy where they are?

I was a member at a "women's" "CLUB" too. I hated it. It was nothing but a bunch of mainstreamers who were uneducated on training and FORM while training. Most of them were concerned with the aerobics classes. When I first started, I learned form from a trainer. While I was trying to do pulldowns (to the FRONT as always), one of the girls who worked there came up to me and told me I was "doing it wrong". Pretty funny from a girl who probably couldn't even tell me what I was training while on that machine! lol She made it a point to single me out and TALK REAL LOUD too. Pissed me OFF! I left and went to a REAL gym.......I know how you feel!

Must be co-ed for two reason first being is any women's only gym I have seen equipment was a joke and two I like a little eye candy in between sets.

Yep, I enjoy that myself and since you mentioned it, I realized that I miss the view at a real gym.

I bit the proverbial bullet and joined a real gym; had a back workout and Dayum I feel good!

Amazing what your environment can do for your workouts!
