Chiropractors

every year around the middle of tax season i get some back issues from leaning over my computer for 12 or 15 hours a day while all hyped up on caffeine. . .i have a chiro client that i go see once a week, for a few weeks each year, does the trick for me. . .also started going to a massage therapist once a month. . .highly recommended. . .

I did after my car crash 8 years ago. It helped a lot along with my PT. I was a fucking mess and almost died. Went threw the front window while I was driving, with seat belt on too! It broke! I was thrown about 30 feet. 12 car pile up. Was on the West Side Highway in NYC and it have curves once you pass the GW bridge. Huge pile up and when I went around a curve, BAM! Right into the mix. No drugs and no drinking, this was mid day!

I went to one recently for a stiff/sore neck that wouldn't go away. He did the electro stim and massage and gave me an adjustment. I definately walked out feeling better and felt great the next day.

I have a friend that is one. He adjusts me fairly regularly, but irregularly. HAHA.

If I see him 3 times a week, I get adjusted 3x. If I see him once every 2 weeks, I get adjusted 1 every 2 weeks. Since it's free..... I can't complain or expect a steady schedule.

Personally, I feel just as good when someone walks on my back and cracks everything under their feet. You can't fall for that crap about chiros being able to do magical shit like improve your memory, cure digestive problems, etc...

So so far, all good.
I don't think of Chiro's a crack pots, I'm just not sure they can make me feel better.
My sister and a guy I work with swears by them. I don't have back pain, but a lot of stess on my body from lupus. My sister's Chiro says he helps many lupus sufferes.
I want to make sure a chiro can help, before my body is manipulated making it worse.
My insurance covers a chiro so not worried about the money.

And your neck still feels ok??!

YES and I love him!!

I was in a car accident a few years back (hit and run) and it messed me up pretty bad. I have to go every few weeks now but I was there 3x a week in the beginning. I will be going to one for the rest of my life

i go twice a week

once for my back and once for my knee..

they get expensive if you go every week i pay 60 bucks a session. But its really depends on you.

Sometimes if im good with my stretching and icing down the inflamation and stuff i dont really need to go. but others day like yesterday i totatlly locked up and had to go.

same with my sis, she had to go 3 x a week now just for adjustments. She feels great.
This is all such good news

Fez, 60$ a session?! That is a rip. Most charge $35. My sis's guy is downtown TO and she is paying $35.

I was very skeptical at first. My wife kept trying to get me to go for a nagging neck injury. I finally did and man was it worth it. I don't think they're a cure all for everyting but in most cases they're great IMO.

Active Release Treatment / Therapy.

Greatest single invention EVER. Most (if not all) ART certified docs are chiro's. But ART specifically is not an "adjust my back" kinda practice. ART single handedly helped me get over an RC partial tear. Hurts like a bitch (ART mostly involved deep tissue work with some odd extremity stretching), but is WELL worth it.

Chiro's are alright, but you should probably find out what specifically is ailing you and then figure out the proper corrective path.

I had a microdiscectomy in Sept, so I started going to an ART dude a couple months ago again. LOTS of work on the hips, glutes and hammies.

I was paying close to $140 a session (not covered by insurance).

I have been going once a week for probably 5 years now. I added 30 minutes of deep tissue in back, neck and shoulders a couple of years ago. Runs me about $39 bucks a week because I pay a year in advance. Helps greatly for my lower back, couple of worn down disks, shoulder and neck injuries of the past that seem to hurt now that I am getting older.

Not all Chiro's are the same though. Some are really into the whole special medicine kind of thing and think doctors are quacks. Not for me. Found a guy that is legit and does the trick. To each his/her own though.

that's the key, to find a guy who is not a quackie quack. Referal is the way to go I guess.

A good chiro can do wonders, a bad one can fuck you up for life, just like any other bad doctor.

The best results I've had are sticking with weight training, getting a TempurPedic bed, and seeing my chiro once every three weeks to a month.

I have degenerative discs throughout my whole back in addition to several congenital spinal "malformations."

I also have a lot of hope for getting benefits from Tai Chi (if I ever learn how to walk *sigh*)

That's what I'm worried about, getting a bad one. Like he cracks me and I lost all feeling in my legs or something.
But the name of the guy I got looks good. Lots of good ref's.
I'm having trouble lifting weights lately b/c of the lupus. I've been to the gym like 4 times in the past month. So bad!
I need to force myself. I'm still swimming and walking though.

Good recommendations are the key with a chiropractor, seriously. If you have several people saying they were happy with him, then you can feel pretty confident.

Look at it this way, with my neck problems, if I can still feel my toes after nearly 30 years of adjustments (and some of them were pretty bad chiros) no worries for you.

Have you ever considered seeing a Chinese medical specialist for the lupus? One who does herbs and acupuncture? I believe a lot (if not all) autoimmune diseases have to do with screwed up body energy (blocked Qi) in addition to other things (environmental toxins, low grade food intolerance, heavy metal exposure, stress, etc.).

I really hope you're feeling better soon :rose:

I've been to a couple of them for my back. For me it was always a very temporary fix to the problem. All they do is pop the fluid, which always refills anyways. They help but it's more important (for back issues anyways) to learn better posture to prevent further problems. You could easily go through a lot of money with the chiropractic approach.
