wide grip chins are excellent for back mass,but in my opinion they will only strengthen the upper to mid area. try deadlifts and barbell rows to strengthen thee entire back. they will also help you gain mass..
 
Slightly wider than shoulder width with your palms facing you. This position allows for a greater range of motion and puts the biceps (weak link) in their strongest position which will allow further stimulation to the lats.
