Check out the bench grip in this PIC

errr... and yer a pro? most people who have very high benche weight dont use their thumbs for 2 reasons, 1. it wastes strength to squeeze the bar, 2. high weight can cause to much pressure on the thumb bones, causing them to pressure crack/fracture.

do some research before insulting people, everyone has different lifting styles.

No. Just no.

It's a rule in at least one federation that your thumbs HAVE to be around the bar.

It is true that many pro body builders(including Arnold and Colman) use the thumb less grip for barbell presses, but many elite powerlifters intentionally squeeze that bar has tightly as possible.

I think it is far to say that no way is really better than the other. It is just a matter of preference.

wtf that is just dead wrong

lee, you should do some research. when you bench you need to squeeze the hell out of the bar, its the best way to recruit as much muscle as you can(i.e. more triceps) and if you bench like that guy your asking for trouble, hes benching like a jackass and will dump that bar on his ribs eventually if he hasnt already. when you bench you need to have you wrist in as straight a line as possible, why? becuase if you dont you lose power, if you wrists are bent, then most of the power wont go through the bar. if you wrists are bent back like that then you will press over your face, not good. if you want to maximize you bench weights, and in turn bild more muscle and strenght you need to grip the fuck out of that bar.

I just started squeezin the shit out of the bar too after a helpful tip from Liftbig....really makes a difference!

I've NEVER wrapped my thumb around the bar like that. Never had any problems either. Just more comfortable for me I guess.

However, I'm gonna try it next chest day. Will see if it makes a difference.
