CaVe MAn DiEt

Wow, no one here is famaliar with this diet. The idea of the Caveman Diet (also called Paleolithic Eating) is the keep your insulin levels in check and to balance your omega 3 to omega 6 to saturated fat ratio to that closer to how our ancestors ate. Actually on this diet you are suppost to avoid grain-fed meat and try to get grass-fed beef (you can buy in online if no one locally sells it). Because our meats and alot of other foods are deficient in omega 3's, you'll have to add in additional omega 3's such as flax seed oil in order to do this diet at its written. 60-70% of your food by weight is suppost to be green veggies (meaning you can easily get over 2 ibs of them every day if you do the diet right)

Foods not allowed (this is due to the fact that during our evolution they were not available): anything processed, grains of any type, dairy (eggs are not dairy btw), potatoes, etc.

While I think it's a good idea to eliminate much of the processed food, I still don't nescaserrily think it's the best idea to do 'cave man diet' just for the sake of eating like our so called ancestors did.

The good thing about time passing, is our understandings and knowledge accumulate. So certainly there are certain things we can use to our advantage in this day, for example.. dextrose, and isolated proteins, healthy oil extracts from different sources.

there's no sense in putting all this evolution to waste, just choose wisely from what has changed, and preferebly not from the disgraces that have become.

I mean, if you really wanted to do a caveman diet, you could also starve or go a few weeks with only a few hundred calories to simulate unlucky conditions in the 'caveman' times. :)

yes you need to avoid grains-they are neo carbs, we have only ingested them for a short periond of time and are loaded with allergic properties. i would reserve them for post workout if you really need them.
however, potatoes are the best thing on this type of diet post workout, the problem is you have to cook them. cooking was not all as common for neolithic types. we have only cooked our food for a very small portion of our time on earth. most all food eaten raw, and meats. no its pretty much impossible to follow that.
-the potatoe recommendation is straight from loren cordains mouth-he is the author of the paleo diet book.

While I want to try this diet....the last thing I wanted to do was start a debate, but that's not all bad either. BodyByFinaplix thank you for the omega and flaxseed oil advice, Socrates thank for the authors name of a book I can compair my thinking to.
I still feel that this needs some guidelines and some supplements, but I also feel that this type of eating, whatever name you put to it has some ground to stand on. I will take it upon myself to expierement...

Back in the 80's there was a caveman diet that was going around that was more paterned after our ancestors eating routine. In other words you ate the same thing for a few days and then moved on to something else and repeat. So, if they were hunting and got a deer, they might eat on it for a few days before they switched to elk or whatever.
I did this and it worked. I don't know how, but I remember that it worked.
Maybe you should eat unprocessed foods and range fed meets and eat the same meets and veggies or nuts, etc for 3 days, then switch...
Just a thought from my experience.:user:

cavemen's lifespan was not baecause of his diet. caveman was most likely stronger then anyone on this board who is natural. he had to bust his balls all day and not sit at a computer and "chat." so if he wasnt constantly catabolic from being overworked he probualy would have been huge. some isolation lifts wouldnt have hurt aswell...
