Hey guys!! So here's the deal, I hate cardio. Hate is actually putting it pretty lightly. I love lifting-once I can get my ass to the gym and get going I'm doing great. (NYC stacks may be helping a little ;) ) I want to lose weight, and I know carido is important. But is it impossible to lose weight without cardio? My diet is very on track and I do work hard in the gym.

Yeah, I'm looking for an excuse to get out of cardio..... :worried:

You'll probably need to post your stats / diet / training schedule & than maybe someone can help. I think diet is most important :)

Stats: Fat :)

26
5'6"
180 lbs.
No mesurements-haven't been done yet.

Diet consists of 5 to 6 small meals throughout the day. Chicken, lean pork, lean red meat, brown rice, yams, veggies-lots of veggies, almonds in small amounts. As far as what I eat specifically everyday, it changes. Typically:

8:00 AM-Oatmeal
10:00 AM-Red or Yellow Pepper
12:00 PM-Chicken Breast, handful of almonds
2:00 PM-Salad w/ fat free dressing
4:00 PM-Either veggies or brown rice
8:00 PM-Chicken/Pork/Lean red meat, steamed veggies

Training wise I'm trying to do 4 days a week in the gym. Days vary but I'm shooting for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday. Right now my workouts aren't very structured. Basically randomly roaming around the gym doing a little of everything. I'm trying to get my body use to a littlle exertion.

It's not impossible, but your progress may not be optimal. You can try making your training routines very "aerobic" -- short rest periods between sets & exercises, do more supersetting, etc. The diet is definitely the most important, but for me, for example, cardio was what made the difference.

That's what I did today-more aerobic lifting. It's not impossible for me to suck it up and do carido, I just don't wanna. (Can you hear me whine!?!) Let me ask you this-how much cardio do I need to do each week?

I don't really know. I've never liked it alll that much-now that I'm fat I like it even less, probably because there's so much jiggling going on. The eliptical machine is totally out. Of all the cardio machines-the stationary bike is my favorite.

That's a hard one to say -- like I said, for me to make a significant diff I have to do my regular 4x/week + another 4x/week, e.g. 45 min AM cardio + 20-30 after training at nite about 4x/week. But that's me and that was also on a cutting diet.

Honestly I don't think there is a down side to some cardio - it is as much fun as you make it. You can do a couple HIIT sessions that are only about 20 min each. You can move around to the diff machines. You can do sprints, stairs, etc. Do a cardio class. Whatever. It helps me to clear out the cobwebs, I feel energized after it, I sleep better and I get going in the morning w/ it.

Wow Sassy, you do lots of cardio... I wouldn't want to be doing that much :worried:.

Let me put that into context -- this is for competition prep. That is the only way I've made significant fat loss results. Otherwise I just can't get past a certain plateau w/ my usual 4x/week + lifting + diet.

The point is to determine how your body responds & what fits your lifestyle.

Let me add some aspects of my current training -- I have back problems so my chiro is expressly forbidding heavy leg training like leg press, squats, deads. So my alternatives include lots of walking lunges, step ups, and I'll be incorporating "stadiums" and sprints soon. This is definitely HIIT training and also I'm expecting it to hit the quads, hams & glutes nicely.
