Long story short, I have been dealing with chronic hip pain for going on 5 years. For the 4 years previous I had been told by two different orthopedists that I had tendonitis of the IT band. I had a corticosteroid shot and PT for 2 months in that span. Eventually, I gave up, tried other things, etc and so forth gave up again, rinse and repeat.
This past March I thought I'd try again as the injury has kept me either at far less effort than I am accustomed to exerting in the gym, or the pain has been so bad that I could not go.
Last month after seeing a new orthopedist in conference with a pain management specialist, they had me go in for an MRI which indicated that it was not an IT band issue but indicated a mild thickening of the left distal gluteus minimus with surrounding edema and mild to moderate tendinosis and peritendinitis. Additionally, the doc said adduction of my left leg was profoundly weaker than my right.
They gave me another corticosteroid shot into this area today. I am scheduled to follow up in a month.
I am interested if anyone could recommend a weekly routine for rehab. Clearly, I don't want to overdo it and cause the inflammation/tendinitis from being able to heal correctly. But I also obviously need to re-strengthen this muscle (and muscle group) so that I am also not re-injuring it continuously due to its weakness.
I've been here for nearly 16 years and haven't asked for much. If there are any PT's or members out there who could guide me to a quality routine I'd be forever grateful!
