By how much can I increase lifting weights?

When doing weight training, by how much do you increase the weight each time you want to step it up? For example, I do bench press with 50 kgs for 15 reps. By how much should I increase the weight each time? Like double the weight, or just 10 kgs for instance?

Most lifters wil only be able to increase the weight used in their workouts by about 1 kg each workout.

Think about it. If you could add 10kg to your bench press each workout, in 30 workouts you would add 300kg! That is impossible.

Never sacrifice weight for form. Building muscle is a slow process. Getting stronger is a really good sign that your muscles are becoming bigger and larger but it won't happen over night. Try to add 1kg to your lifts each workout.

If you did 50kg for 15 reps this workout, next workout try to do 51kg for 15 reps. The workout after that try to do 52kg for 15 reps. And so on.

when you are new to lifting you can get stronger a lot faster. it isn't a linear transgression where you keep getting stronger forever. once you get to my strength level hell I am happy getting an extra 5 pound improvement.

bottom line is push yourself in the gym and lift smart. the gains will come.. do not be afraid to set realistic goals. the idiots you see at the gym (usually 3 or 4 young guys together) who will throw on 200 pounds on the bench and then do it assisted go nowhere. then they put on another 50 pounds as if it would be easier the next go around. thats how people get hurt

it takes time to build strength

Depends on how much of increments you feel comfortable with. If you are close to your one rep max, I wouldnt jump by more than 5kg.

If you are just warming up, 20-40kg jumps for me are usual

You just want to judge by how easy the reps were. If your rep range was 12-15 reps then you should be failing in that range. I would slowly increase until you reach that point.
