bulking - calorie cycling? how many calories?

alright guys, i need help with bulking up.

i've been half assed following Mr. X's bulking guidelines for bulking, except i've been going 30% protein and 40% carbs instead of what he suggests.

i've also been trying to keep total calorie intake to 20*bodyweight.

well unfortunately all i've managed to do is give myself a huge appetite so when i cheat, i cheat real bad, and i'm putting on too much bodyfat.

i need to get on a steady diet, but at this point i'm really not sure what diet to follow. is 20* bodyweight right for bulking up?

and if i were to follow mr.x's diet, following his given ratios of 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat, should i also follow his idea of calorie cycling (10*bodyweight in total calories on off day - 33%protein, 33% carbs, 33% fat)? any insight on the idea of calorie cycling would be great.

also, if you have some other macronutrient breakdowns or different ways for figuring total calories, i'd like to hear them.
 
that was way too much to read, but yes 20X bw is what i went with for bulking. i ate 100% clean, my carbs came from green veggies, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes...then i had lots of eggs, chicken beef stuff like that. if you take in more cals then u burn you will add size, if you burn more then you take in, you lose weight..
 
If you do follow Mr.X's plan, you should do it the way he has it laid out.

I'm not calorie cycling right now, but I may change over to his diet soon. I'm making up meals with the right breakdown right now as a matter of fact.

I've been doing BW x 18 for bulking and done well. It's a little slower, but I've gained a lot less fat. That's just me though, everyone is different and kinda has to see what works.

I'll let ya know if I start the calorie cycling.

what does your macro split look like? anything similar to the 40/30/30 of Mr.X's diet? I know that man knows his shit when it comes to diets, but I'm trying to avoid eating 390g of protein daily which is what his diet would call for. I'll have eat alot of protein on my cutting diet. But then again, if calorie cycling while bulking, I'll have off days where I only take in about 160 g of protein, so average that over a week and I guess it isn't so bad - about 290 per day average.
 
Mr X.'s diet plan

You can't go wrong with Mr. X.'s diet plan. You can tweek them a little to suite your own needs I guess. You may need low or higher overall calories depending on your metabolism, but I'd stick with his ratios. With his bulking plan, I consume more protein than he calls for on non-wporkout days.
