Im a little rusty on exactly how the valsalva effect works, but I use it every day. Basically, it involves taking a deep breath which stabilizes and fixes your spine during the lift. I slowly exhale on during the lift upward. I have found it very beneficial, and havent used a belt or any other accessories since. What type of breathing technique do you use?

I take my breath at the top of a lift, and usually hold it until I finish, or am at least halfway up from a lift. I'd be interested to know what my blood pressure gets to during a lift.

Did you mean at the beginning? Like if you are benching, when do you breathe in or out? I breathe in as soon as I get it off the rack. I hold it for the negative and exhale on the positive. I wasnt clear on your response.

Sorry, I did mean the beginning. During my higher rep sets, I sometimes forget to breathe at all, especially during bench press. I take that one big breath before I get the bar, and then hold it for the set. Hey, maybe I'd be good at underwater benching! ;)

with the valsalva effect, it comes naturally for me.....but i would watch out for the blood pressure whilst doing it ( i mean if you have high blood pressure)
