box squats

well, i did box squats today for the first time...felt good, even though i really only did 185lbs to get the form down good...

Does anyone think this is okay for a 5x5 primary exercise??? because i liked the feel of it in my quads more so than normal full squats...

you shouldn't feel it in your quads at all if you did them properly :)

Your hams and abductors should feel like ripping of the bone if done properly.

I agree...

I don't think that there should be a problem doing a 5x5 with box squats...

Box squats are excellent for developing hip strength. However, I am always affraid I will lose size in the quads from box squats.

LS, if you chase it with an isolating quad move, I bet you'd be ok. The quads are used in a box squat, they just aren't the PRIMARY movers. Ever seen a powerlifter with small quads and huge hammies?

Good point!! I could sure use some improvements in hip strength.
