Box squats or GMs

Which have you found to help your squat more?

I only have room in my routine for one right now. Which should I pick, or should I cycle them, doing one for 2 weeks and then the next?
 
i love box squats, but the boxes i built <sniff> got thrown away. at the club i work at no less. stupid people.

both will definitely help you. gms will bulletproof your lower back.

Well I think its because of the high volume of oly lifts and oly pulls I do. Lots of posterior chain work there.
Plus I do hammer the hyper back extensions quote a bit in an explosive manner.

Damn my hamstrings are sore right now :)
 
i do bench squats they hit my quads only:confused:

been thinking about rigging up a box but i've dragged enough sh*t in the gym already.

i know bentleg GM's have done wonders for my squat (at the bottom), deadlifts
and heavy rows.

You are probably not sitting back far enough. You might also need a wider stance. The wider the stance for me, the less quads and more hams and glutes come into play.

I think about it like this, I sit way back and actually think of pulling myself up with my legs. Not standing up.

hmmmm...i always thought it was the bench not being low enough. i'll have to try a wider stance & sit back more next time. thanx

Yes, to work the hamstrings ad hips well you must sit back until your shins are past perpendicular and use a box 2 inches below parallel. Jesus Christ do some fucking research. Whan I was 16 I was reading translated russian textbooks.

I sometimes find a bench the same height as my box....and accidentally sit on it whilst squating. Whoops, whoops, whoops......about 23 times a dynamic effort work out.

Thanks for the ideas. I've already restructered my new routine twice this week, I'm finally starting to cement some parts of it I think.

I think I'm going to rotate exercises around every 2 weeks, maybe 3.
 
Changing max effort exersises every 2-3 weeks is only for beginners. You will gain much quicker and burn out less if you change every week.

miss those boxes...guess we could make some new ones? or will they trash those too?

I use these movements to help with the squat:

stiff leg deadlifts
deadlifts
deadlifts off the rack
t-bar rows
good mornings
barbell rows
shrugs
hyperextensions
lying leg curls
all ab exercises

I try to strengthen all areas since they all play an important role when squatting.

This is totally uncalled for. If you do not like the amount of research someone has done then feel free to ignore the question but your attitude doesnt do anyone here any good. If you want to be constructive in your critisims then fine but if your just here to cut people down for the fun of it then please move on.

Beetlejuice is a peice of shit. He disgraces the little people race every day and when the height impared take control of the world he will be imprisoned with all the other traitors. I dont degrade my fellow little person by appearing on talk shows. I will never disgrace myself and take a job like that just because I am eating out of garbage cans and drinking from the toilet.
