I've been absent from the Women's Forum for far too long... thought I'd poke my head in here and see what's what... afterall the Women's training forum is what brought me to elite nearly SEVEN years ago.

I scanned through this thread and got the highlights.

Slat1's advice about involving your kids with your training is an EXCELLENT idea. Physical activity releases endorphines and helps you to feel better, not to mention all of the other health benefits. By you teaching your children how to cope with stress you will also help to feel more positive about your relationship w/them. This might help to counteract the negatives you may feel about your marriage breaking down.

I am very happy to hear that you have kept at it, even though your plate is full with life.

One question, how are you guaging your progress? The scale, a tape measure, how your clothing fits, how you feel or any combination?

Thanks Bikinimom
Right now Im going by the way my clothes are fitting. I am a scale junkie too though Im working on it.

Wow, feels like forever since I've been here. Im working my tail off trying to balance the girls emotional needs, my needs, working longer days and trying to fit in workouts and good eats. Very hectic.

Its time to buckle down again. Im very upset that I may need to switch to early am workouts. Im sooooo not a morning person. Looks like I need to get used to getting up and out by 5:30 so I can be back in time to get the girls off to school. This is going to take so much willpower. I hate, hate, hate getting up before 7am! Maybe its just a mental thing :)

Ok, so Im not where I wanted to be at this point in my life but I have been handed a "do-over" and Im gonna run with it.

Girls are adjusting now with all the changes so its time to vamp up my workouts and start eating clean every day!!!

Wont be able to log each and every day but Im going to do as much as I can in hopes that it keeps me on track.

Thanks to all that have emailed me with words of wisdom. You all are so wonderful!!

EXCELLENT!!!

THROW AWAY YOUR SCALE. It is not an accurate indicator of fat loss. Heck, you may gain lean mass and the number going up may freak you out.

.... go by how your clothing fits or if you have a tape measure it will be a better indicator of progress.

Or another very effective way to guage progress take pics in the same shorts and workout top or bathing suit, whatever you are comfortable in. Do it biweekly or every 4 weeks. You get so used to seeing yourself every day that you won't really notice the changes and you can sabotage yourself.

I know how hard it is to rearrange and redefine your life when your family is in upheavel. Take time for yourself, do your *you growth* and *your mommy* thing... the rest will fall into place.

I promise you. :)

I hate the scale. I can fluctuate 8lbs a day!

Can you repeat that like 50 times until ALL OF THE WOMEN HERE HAVE HEARD IT?!?! :lmao:

The number on the scale wreaks havoc with our mind so that is a detail that we DONT NEED to assess progress.

I remember back in the day I had a client who after training with me one month gets on the scale and she lost ONE POUND!

:worried: <---- that's me thinkin OH SHIT, am I incompetent, er what?

So then we bust out the tape measure. She lost 40" TOTAL, over 10" from her waist where she carried most of her bf. The fact that she only lost ONE POUND further proved that she maintained her LBM (may have even gained a bit of muscle) and lost mostly fat, if not all fat. Her strength did not diminish either but increased, further proof that she lost bf and maintained her muscle mass. And she was COMPLETELY without anabolics or any other performance enhancing products.

So now.... if she had gotten on the scale even once, how likely do ya'll think she would have been to stick to the diet I gave her... meaning EATING FOOD?

As a personal trainer one of THE FIRST rules I had with my clients was DO NOT GET ON THE SCALE UNTIL IT IS TIME FOR US TO WEIGH YOU. Dealing with being out of shape and the sense of loss of control over one's body is enough mental issues to deal with. Why complicate the process by doing something that MIGHT sabotage you?

STAY THE HELL OFF THE SCALE!!! :chomp:

Everybody got that? :qt:
