Body Gem?

Nessa Bug

New member
Has anyone gotten their BMR using Healthetech's Body Gem or Med Gem? I have an appointment for Monday morning. Just wondering if anyone had it done and what they thought.

i havent had it done. but i used healthetech's balancelog with great success in tracking my food/cal/nutrient ratios.

Nessa, please post what you thought of it, cuz I'm thinking of getting it done.

Sure jen. I am really looking forward to seeing what I really need/day as far as calories go. Of course it's only basal. I wonder if they can tell you how many cals you burn during certain activities.
Bignate- do you have the PDA version or PC version?

Guess what Jen. I went to get the bodygem testing done Monday morning and they FORGOT the machine at their other office. I was not happy especially since I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since about 6 the day beforein preperation for the test. But, I rescheduled for tommorow morning so let's hope all goes well.

Oh man! That stinks! Hope all goes well tomorrow, so keep us updated!

Yeah!!! The Bodygem testing has been completed! They remembered the machine this morning (Thank God!). The procedure was really simple. I just breathed into a mask for about 5-8 minutes. My RMR (not my BMR) is 1350 cals/day. So, from what I understand this is the amount of calories my body needs to support basic metoblic functions and does not include any calories burned during activity/exercise. It's actually higher that I anticipated. SO, I think I'm going to buy the software and use it to track my intake. Overall, it was pre

ooops...Let me try this again....Overall, it was pretty simple and will be well worth the time and money if it helps me fine tune my diet. Plus, I really love knowing my actual calorie needs rather than an estimation given via mathmatical formula.

Just curious, does 1350 cals for a RMR sound low, average, high as far as metabolsim and cals/day goes. I'm 5'4, 128 lbs., not sure about the body fat. Although I think I'm about 16-17, (maybe less?) give or take a few. The last time I got tested, I was 19% at 137lbs.

Ive been tested before I thought it was cool.
Mine was 1460.

Yeah so I wanna get it again. And supposedly if your Vo2 or whatever goes down then you are losing muscle and that is how you know if you are gaining/losing muscle, and you are supposed to go get it done every 5-10 lbs you lose/gain.

But it is 50 dollars for me every time you do it. I also did Medgem, which is 99% accurate, and the BodyGem has an error rate of 3-10%

This is just what I was told.

Ammilio, what's your weight, height, bf%? Just curious to see how the cals are affected by weight, bf, etc.
10% huh, that would be 135 cals for me. I guess you should keep them a little lower if trying to lose and a little higher if trying to gain, just to be safe.

Also, Bignate, do you think the palm or the home version would be better? I don't have the money to spend on both.
Thanks!
