calveless wonder said:The athleticism is unparalleled in basketball in the US. There's no question that we produce high flying physical thoroughbreds. We by far have the best athletes when it comes to the sport. It's not even close
HOWEVER, europeans, argentina etc have closed the gap considerably. Their biggest asset being that they are very fundamentally developed unlike the US.
You know why the US has gotten their asses kicked aside from this past year's team? Really simple. Has very little to do with talent
1.) our best players haven't gone in years. We've had a make shift roster
2.) The composition of our team hasn't been very good. We've been taking pieces that don't neccessarily fit
3.) The other countries olympic/international teams have been together for years and have played with each other to develop chemistry. The NBA players get shuffled together with a random cast and are expected to be cohesive after a few weeks of practice, with a coach most have never played under? You could mask that when you have Jordan, bird, magic, barkley, etc but not when you have a a few superstars by modern day standards mixed with a bunch of "pretty good" all stars.
The NBA has become alot more international, but you'll be damn sure the lebrons, kobes, etc will continue to originate from the US with your occasional steve nash/dirk/yao

Umm, except the players that spend most of the year in the NBA, like Ginobli, who's team won it a couple years ago. There are PLENTY of international players in the NBA.calveless wonder said:like i said, these euro/argentine teams have played together for years. It's a big thing for them. We just draw up a roster with talent, stick them together for a couple of weeks and give them a coach 90% of them have never played for.
