Blood type diet test log (AB)

Hi all, this is a log for a test I'm doing. A month or so back I came across the blood type diet idea. The theory is that different blood types have different dietary requirements, my blood type (AB) is the rarest with type O being the most common as such my dietary requirements are quite different to someone who is type O.

I tried eating right for my (blood) type for 3 weeks and to my astonishment found it was a lot easier to eat, I'd usually struggle through meals containing meat (most of them) and feel stuffed full and bloated most of the day, eating for my type I found putting away 4000+ cals about 50-100 times easier than the 3,500 I'd been struggling to force down before. Speaking to friends who were aware of this diet type I thought it would be an idea to conduct a little experiment, I'd get blood tests done after eating "wrong" for my type, then after sticking to my blood type diet for a few months get tested again to see if the diet had any significant effect on my health.

So I had my blood test last Thursday (12th April) and I've been eating right for my type since.

I won't go into masses of detail here as that would be pretty much just copying what's already been written in the book "eat right for your type". I will however highlight the basic dos and donts of my blood type diet.

No meat. Type ABs have low levels of stomach acid and find meat hard to digest storing much of it as fat.

Limited wheat or cornmeal. Type ABs are fine with most grains but not in excess

Large amounts of fruit and veggies. Type A diet is largely vegetarian and as AB is a mix of type A and type B apparently we do well with lots of veg.

Dairy is fine. Type Bs are best at digesting dairy and ABs inherit this quality from their B side.

Fish, in the absence of meat fish is easier to digest and a good alternative protein source for type ABs

There is much more to it than this but as I said, I'm not gonna type out the whole book. Of anyone is interested PM me your email and I'll send you a PDF copy of the book. :)

I hope that the end results of the little experiment show that eating for my type lowers cholesterol and makes it easier to gain muscle by being able to put away enough protein and easier to lose bodyfat by not storing poorly digest foods as fat.

In addition to this log I will be keeping a video log on YouTube.

Just need to thank my good bro Bader for his help putting this experiment together and introducing me to his friend who is making a documentary on the blood type diet. :D

excellent!
Most of the population has blood type O. Here the prescribed diet is low-carbohydrate, high in proteins (such as meat and fish), and low in dairy products. The author suggests specific foods to avoid; such as avocados, brazil nuts, and oranges. Type O should also engage in lots of exercise.

Blood Type A should avoid red meat, eat plenty of fish and vegetables, with a low dairy intake. Light exercise only.

Blood Type B should avoid chicken and bacon, eat plenty of meat and dairy, some fish, and plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Blood Type AB combines the A and B diets.

HOWEVER! let me say this
Two people can have very different metabolisms and have the same blood type. One could be sensitive to carbohydrates or sugar, whilst the other needs a high carbohydrate diet.

Weight loss and other health improvements may occur on this diet – not so much because of blood type combinations, but because of a healthier diet! the best way to do it is for people to cut down on processed and refined foods. Good advice for anyone regardless of blood type.

This is so interesting CS thank you for sharing.
You mind emailing me the book please.
I'm going to get my blood group as I don't yet know it.
I can't wait to see how this works. I have my fingers crossed ...

Agreed, my GF is also type AB (coincidence or what??) and she is always slim, she's pretty much ectomorphic and she eats meat regularly although nowhere near as much as I did! Lol! In the book "eat right for your type" it is mentioned that while someone may by type O for example, they could still share some traits of other types if they have a parent of that type. There is also secretor status to consider as well... I'm actually in the process of finding out whether I'm a secretor or not. I'll post results here of course!

My diet was pretty good before, I kept it as clean as possible apart from the odd cheat meal. So I'm hoping that won't be the main reason I have success with this diet! :D

Thanks for the input RADAR
Muchly appreciated :)

Day 1.

I'm gonna pretty much post up screen shots from my cal counter as tapping everything out is gonna take too much time!

Observations:
I haven't felt too full all day. Usually my evening meal would be forced down and take quite a while to finish off if I were eating chicken or steak. Cod on the other hand goes down easily and after I'm done I could eat more. :)

Thanks for sending me this too mate, I just gotta find out my blood type first haha!
It'll be interesting to see how it all goes, and if blood types really affect the many differnet enzymes in your body, I'm studing biology, focus on DNA, RNA, protien strains and of course with protien strains comes enzyme stuff, so it'll be interesting too see it all in action on this theroy :D
I don't see it fully working well that way, but I'm surely open for the idea of it though, def going to be going to my uni and opening a little study for myself on it hehe :D

Glad you learned something from this.

Glad you find it interesting bro. Thanks for following. :)

Ok just a thought. I had only 3 apples yesterday and a salad so today I'm going to increase my fruit and veg intake and try to get some berries and grapes on board as well. I had just under 3,500 cals yesterday with 315g protein I'd like to get closer to 4,000 cals with 400g protein (I'm a heavy lump!)

Lol, funny fcuker!

I've actually used the loo less today than usual and I've eaten shit loads!

Little update as per above.

Today I've put away 3,308 cals so far and I haven't had dinner yet!!! I don't feel full bloated or anything. I was weak in the gym today but I rather think that's down to the cal deficit I've been in whilst trying to cut for the transformation contest. :(

I've had 4,360 cals today!!! That's a record for me, unless I'm eating pizza or some other crap that is!
Macros are the same 40/40/20

Only 19g off my protein target. Not too shoddy.

seems like you are getting quite a bit of your protein from shakes...
i know it seems a little unconventional, but for your diet have you considered using soy as a protein source?... it seems like it would be a better fit, i wouldnt try it myself because im very anti-soy... just wondering your thoughts on it...

Yes I have considered soy, I plan on introducing it once I've found out my secretor status. I actually started mixing my shakes with soy milk when I first tried this diet. Apparently soy contains Estrogen but also has an enzyme which blocks Estrogen production in the body.

Yeah I had 3 shakes yesterday I usually only have 2 per day, 1 after training and 1 before bed. I did try getting more fish down the hatch yesterday. Yesterday morning I woke up with a growling stomach and had to put something in it. A shake was the quickest easiest choice, I don't get much time in the mornings.

Moya has brought up an interesting point here, I do get a lot of my protein from shakes.

Shake 1 whey protein isolate mixed with water, contains 43g protein 0g fat and 0g carbs I usually have this one after training, just before lunch.

Shake 2 whey protein isolate plus a mixture of whey, caesin and egg protein mixed with 300ml milk, contains 111g protein 8g fat and 17g carbs, this one I have before bed.

Don't use any soy you're doing fine as is Try to read this also

Thanks RADAR, I've read your post many times :)

The only reason I planned on introducing soy was in the interests of this experiment. Do you really feel its that bad?

Also do you think my bed time shake is a bit too big? 111g protein is a lot in one go.

Soy has estrogenic properties so some may not be suggesting using any, but if you have a good percentage of body fat i wouldn't recommend any soy products for you.

I would need to see a pic of nutrients before i can comment!

Bro check post #21 I put screen shots of the cal breakdown for each shake. Or do you need the ingredients from the label?

My current bodyfat percentage is 12.7% just had it checked with calipers. Literally 10 mins ago! Lol.

Several studies have that Soy does indeed increase estrogen in males. Just FYI...good work in here bro. Thanks for taking the effort and time to put this up.

I really appreciate the input guys, and of course the concern for my health!! :)

If I am indeed a secretor (AB antigen secretor) then apparently soy is good for me according to my blood type. The studies into it were done without blood type in mind and there's something like a 5% chance any of the test subjects were AB as mine is the rarest blood type, this is why Bader's friend is interested in me doing this log as he's making a documentary on this very subject and he wants to use my findings in his documentary.

I will only introduce soy if I am a secretor, otherwise I'll leave it cos I absolutely hate the stuff, and as I'm eating fish which I've never liked, I really don't want to add another flavour I can't abide. :)

If the soy DOES raise my oestrogen levels this will be confirmed by the blood tests I have at the end of the experiment. I initially cut out the soy milk I'd started making my shakes with because I respected the opinions given when I first mentioned it, and while I still do respect you guys and will always value your opinions, I feel in order to be as accurate as possible and do the best job I can in this endeavour I should use as
many of the foods recommended for me as possible.

:)

Oh, anyone think my bedtime shake is a bit OTT?

I got a whey isolate powder and one made with whey, caesin and egg protein. I use a scoop of each with 300ml (just over 1/2 pint) for my bedtime shake.

Here's a macro breakdown :)

Well said bro. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Righty, here's yesterday's food and cals, I know I hardly ate at all yesterday, started as per usual but there were complications I won't go into here, I've already mentioned it in my other log!

Even my cal counter is telling me I didn't come close to enough food yesterday.

Ok I didn't get time last night to update.

It says in the book eat right for your blood type that while meat is generally off for my tyie I should have a small portion every now and then. There are only a few choices 3 I can remember off the top of my head are turkey, lamb and rabbit. So yesterday I had 2oz lamb at lunch time. Big mistake, I could still feel it in my stomach several hours later. Won't be doing that again in a hurry! Next time I'll try turkey....

Ok I had 3,453 cals yesterday, the lamb at lunch time made me feel full for ages everything else was fine. I did have more coffees than usual partly due to the new girl in the coffee bar.... ;)

Ok it's been a week so far on the blood type diet. Apart from Wednesday where I had some bad news to deal with I ate pretty well. I had a small amount of lamb on thursday as per blood type diet recommendation but it took all afternoon to digest so I'm cutting it out. Not next week but the week after I'll try a couple of ounces of turkey, see how that treats me.

This week my weight has remained stable despite eating more than I was leading up to this test. I had my bodyfat measured using calipers and got a result of 12.7% down from 12.9% 3 weeks previously.

I'll be making and uploading a vid diary entry for YouTube later on today I'll include a link. :)

I'm havin lunch with my friend and chatting about this blood type diet. She's type O and says she hardly ever has dairy and doesn't eat much wheat either. Her regular diet consists primarily of meat and fresh veggies. This is her preference having not heard of the blood type diet before interesting how it fits. She's always been slim, healthy and energetic. :)

I wonder if peeps kind of gravitate naturally toward what their BT diet would be?
Of course here in the US with all our fast food I guess it would be hard to tell.

I sure didn't and still don't. Not on what I can eat, but what I can't. Gluten and starches I freaking love to eat. It really sucks having to cut it out. But gluten alone makes me sick for a day or two.

Meat on the other hand, I've always eaten plenty of that and love it. But it tastes so damn good on a hamburger bun. Ugh

I've always loved meat, especially steak and chicken and always hated fish. Even now I have to get the fish down as fast as I can cos I don't like the taste.

Dairy on the other hand I've always loved, milk, yoghurt, cheese (except blue cheeses) and never had any problem with.

My dad has always has a fairly good diet for his blood type (A) but that I believe was largely down to his upbringing, his family were farmers and grew a lot of vegetables, they had a diet high in veg with little meat or fish.

My mum (type B) came from a more affluent family and they ate meat regularly (well maybe not just after the war when everything was on ration) growing up my mother had much more meat in her diet than my dad.

My brother and I grew up on a predominantly type B diet provided by my mother, whenever my dad did cook for us he rarely cooked meat.

In my family I was the only one ever to get fat. When we lived in Portugal we ate a lot of fish as it was more available and cheaper (we lived on a boat and often caught our own fish) during this time I was lean and energetic. When we arrived in Gibraltar and my mum started buying meat again I got fat. All my life it seems I've had to fight to keep the weight off while the rest of my nuclear family stayed slim. As a boy my mother hounded me to be more active as she saw that as being the only reason I was fat even though I was no less active than my brother.

I can have wheat in small infrequent portions. The trouble with type AB is some things which are acceptable to A but are not acceptable to B have to be eaten in moderation and vice versa.

I think it's more a case of those peeps who never seem to have trouble staying slim, healthy and energetic are likely to be unwittingly eating well for their type, my family, for example, were all technically eating right for their types except me which may be a contributing factor to my constant weight problem.

Fortunately I am blessed with having the best as I am type B and I love it!
The biggest thing for me has been getting rid of pork and peanut butter. The thing is that I dont feel bad when I eat them, physically. Now that I know they are not optimal for me in my head its like Stay Away from that shit fool!
Of course come summer time its gonna be tuff not eating tomatoes as I love them too. Hell I just love food in general I guess.

Yeah you do have the best of it! My brother is type B too! He gets to eat all our favourite foods! (Gits, the pair o' ya!)

I love eating bro! You don't get big without eating big as Steve says. Thing is I used to love eating all the wrong stuff! And even then I wasn't eating enough for my size! Now I'm here praying my palette changes and I start appreciating fish!

I'm going to go get my blood type checked today this is interesting. Father is 0- and mom is a+. After reading the book so far I'd say I have many traits of blood type O. But I can handle small amounts of oats like a half cup serving at a time. Funny thing is somedays I eat a ton and am ridiculously bloated, other days I eat a ton and am still lean as can be. I find I can plow through nuts and peanut butter like no tomorrow also and not gain weight. I sometimes will eat 2000 calories of mixed nuts in a day. Now if I eat more than 2 slices of bread daily boy I get fat and lazy. I can also eat endless fruit, dairy is a Nono for me. Guess my blood type!! Lol not trying to hijack back to you colstreamer this is just such an interesting topic! Thx for the dedication and awareness

Bro please feel free to post anything blood type diet related in this thread. I really would like to get more info and opinions on this. Stuff like you just said is really interesting, in the book I recall reading that a type O who has a parent of a different type (A in your case) can have some traits of that type inherited. It could be that you can tolerate grains due to something inherited from your mother.

There is also secretor status to consider, I'm waiting for the test results to come back to confirm whether I'm a secretor or not (I believe I am)

I'm gonna guess you're type O ;)

Dude what is this secretor status that you speak of plz?

Ok well you have your basic blood types A B or O (and of course AB the bastard love child of blood types) these different blood types have antigens specific to them which is what prevents diff blood types being transfused. In most people these antigens are secreted into other bodily fluids such as saliva. These peeps are secretor, non secretors do not and as such are more sensitive to the foods which aren't good for them.

Bader's bro who is making the documentary is a type O non-secretor and as such wheat and dairy affect him more strongly than they would a secretor of the same blood type such as Bader. It influences carbohydrate tolerance (and lack of same) as well as the immune system, non secretors are more prone to illness.

Here is some reading on the subject from the D'adamo website

http://www.dadamo.com/knowbase/newbie/a.htm

And some from a different eat right for your type site

http://www.right4eu.us/secretor.html

I'm still learning about this stuff and researching it which is why my explanation isn't that great. :)

Much thanks bro and your explanation was fine man.

Tuesday 23rd April

Great explanation of the secretor CS. I don't know if I am a secretor or not. I'm probably not. But wouldn't be surprised if I was cause I've had my years of illnesses too growing up and get very sick on wheat. Dairy doesn't tend to disturb me that much but I hate it anyway.

A lot of my childhood illnesses are EASILY explained due to not eating for my blood type. As well as my extreme obesity too. My brother who is an A did not have so many problems with sickness nor was he as overweight as me.

ditto with me and my bro! regarding weight that is. neither of us got ill very often. We had to play sick to get a day off school!

I felt a bit nauseous eating my eggs thus morning. My mum always told me not to eat too many eggs, said I'd get "egg bound" I've still no idea what that is! I think I just need a change for a bit. I've been having eggs for breakfast for bleeding ages! Tomorrow I'll just have me some oats. Nice and simple. :)

Did a quick recheck and I'm ok with wheat, it's corn and buck wheat I'm advised to avoid. :)

Means I can have a baguette for lunch!
Nice!

yep wheat is off for me too. One of the few things that is. I just adapted to Rye and have always liked it. Pumpernickel too.

Tuesday 24/04/'12

I didn't eat much yesterday, was busy at work all day and basically missed my shakes! So my protein intake was well down as was my overall cal intake. Other than that.......

It's just buck wheat I gotta steer clear of, and corn & corn bread which sucks cos I love me some nachos & guacamole but I'm to avoid avocado too! My mum used to get us pumpernickel! And rye is on the "highly beneficial" list for me! Which is such a bonus cos I love fresh baked bread! Mmm!

Yep no avocados for me either. And I really like them...bummer man.

Yeah half an avocado with some extra virgin olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Delicious snack! Oh well.... :(

LOL a whole super sized one with sea salt!
We have 2 kinds here, the small ones and the super sized ones. I really cant tell any diff in flavor or texture.
The super sized ones are biggne n a mango.

Well we get em in different sizes but not that big!! :D

Next time I go to the store I will put em side by side and shoot a pic for you.

Be interested to see that. :)

Won't know my blood type for 10 days !! Had to go out of town for work. My mom is pretty certain that I am an A+ but she doesn't know for sure she thinks the card put beside the new born baby ( me ) had A+ on it but I have a ton of traits that Would say I'm O. Personality traits along with food traits, maybe I am "A" but inherited alot of my fathers type O. I really want to know lol. I have been eating a mixed diet with most meats fruits eggs and oatmeal , some sweet potatoes and a fair amount of nuts and PB. Seem to be bloating far less than when I was eating gluten and
I am bulking. I am also one of the few who can smell the asparagus in my pee. Lol. Irrelevant I think but...

It'll definitely be interesting to find out what your type is to see if the diet you're on is what you ought to be eating. If it matches up I feel it would be further evidence to support the theory.

Interesting thing, last week I found a colleague collapsed on the floor. I did my emergency medic bit and luckily he was breathing (really didn't wanna. be doing mouth to mouth!), I thought he'd fainted, the paramedic thought he had a weak heart (the man is 61) but at the hospital it turned out he had a stomach ulcer which had been leaking into his blood stream and had destroyed a lot of blood cells. So there wasn't enough blood to carry the needed oxygen and nutrients.

Remembering that type Os are most likely to suffer from stomach ulcers I asked him about his diet. Turns out when working he doesn't eat breakfast OR lunch, just has his evening meal. This means the stomach acid he is producing had nothing to digest and so the ulcer formed, as they do. I've suggested that he try eating some meat and fresh vegetables at breakfast and lunch from now on. It'll be interesting to see if his ulcer heals any quicker. He's been given some kind of medication for it so it ought to get better anyway but the dietary changes might speed up that recovery.

LOL RTD I can too. I thought everybody could...
Good story CS.

no bro, I can't.....

not me either, but after getting my nose broken (that made me mad) someone didn't have a nice evening after that , i was early 30's at that time, still! good memories. So i have an advantage going into smelly restrooms, But! I have had some that went off the SMELL-O-METER even i took a dive!

^^^ Lolololol! My dad used to be safe in smelly environments. He had nasal polyps most of his life which stopped him being able to smell anythin!

Radar I take it when you got your nose bust you weren't as massive as you are now?

This is really interesting, great read! My bloods are on record somewhere ( work in the hospital) so I'll have to do some digging. By process of ellimination I think I'd be an o type, but we shall see!
Good luck x

Almost
Done my work shift , should know my type Monday :) heres an update though, I've been adding more and more gluten free quick oats, and I seem to be able to digest them very very well, and my weight is dropping even though I've increased calories via oats, energy is also through the roof and sometimes I get very hot and almost break into a sweat after a good meal of oats, like my metabolism Ramps right up. Fills my muscles up too. Im actually eating 350 protein 400 carbs 100 fats right now and feeling really really good.
Love this log hope you don't mind me throwing in things I notice here and there about my diet, I am feeling like a type O /A cross breed :P

I'll admit my diet hasn't been perfect recently, I've stuck to my blood type recommendations but since the end of the contest I've eaten what I've felt like rather than trying to cram in the necessary macros. That's all changing now as I'm planning on bulking up. So I'll be eating MORE!

EDIT: I just noticed I recorded Saturday on the Sunday page! Doh! Oh well there'll be 2 Sundays this week!

Well I feel quite accomplished!
I have eliminated pork and peanut butter from my diet completely.
And I did not replace them with Big Macs either...

Lol, I just had to turn down a roast dinner cos it was chicken. How are you with chicken bro? For me it's the worst thing I can eat. Get more bloat from chicken than anythin else.

dont take this the wrong way... i think this is more what i was interested in witnessing honestly... more how this diet would effect someone not eating tons of protein and a specific macro- but how changing their eating type to fit themselves can let them 'get away with more' then if they ate against it...

...but not that geared towards out goals so good that you recognized this and plan on eating more!

myself, im back on a see-food diet...

I'm on a see food diet too! Lol!

Just eating for your type without trying to reach specific macros I found (I was trying to drop weight in the contest) I was still dropping fat but eating more without feeling so full, I had to make sure I didn't eat too much. So far the main difference I've found is I don't suffer from a bloated stomach like I used to. Cutting out meat has been the best thing I've done.

I got home and ate pretty much all the dairy in my fridge today :)
Its been a fairly heavy dairy day today and I feel fine. Gonna step up my intake tomorrow. Didn't get time for a decent breakfast this morning that won't be happening again. Lol!

For me the chicken is on the Do Not Use list. Which really kinda sucks. Up until you got me hooked up in this I was trying to eat more chicken and less beef. And of course I like chicken. I never felt bad eating it either. Actually as with most food I feel good after I eat it.

This is what he says about in the paper,
The issue is the power of an agglutinating lectin to attack the
bloodstream and potentially lead to strokes and immune disorders. So, even though
chicken may be a beloved food, I urge you to wean yourself away from it.
So obviously Im cutting it out.
