I think I might have hypertension. I'm in shitty cardiovascular shape. I plan to get checked out by a doc soon. I've always been border line but I have been under alot of stress the last month and I think it has gone up....I get headaches all the time.

Should I keep training heavy or should I pull back and hit some cardio for now until I go to the doc????

thanks

Personally I would try and clean up my diet(not that you eat shitty or anything, just speaking from what I have seen with my family memebers) and do some mild cardio. I would just do some walks outside or on the treadmill under a slight incline. I wouldnt lighten up on the lifting though. Just a little mild cardio shouldnt hurt your strength too much if thats your concern. But as far as your health goes, definetly try and clean the diet up first as that is where a great deal of it comes from. Just my .02

Thanks SolidJay55, I talked to another lifter at my gym and said pretty much the same thing:
clean up diet
cut out salt
drink alot of water
do some cardio

so thats what I plan to do and we'll see what happens

thanks again

Ok man...when I weighed 305 I could not walk to the back of the house and not get out of breath. I am in very good shape now at 285-290. Why back off of the heavy weights? Just add some very very light cardio. Light walking a bit is great. My event training helps me greatly.

Health is always a concern...and why don't I listen to myself when I say it? :)

Go tell your doctor you want prozosin, it is the number one selective alhpa blocker prescribed for hypertension, after you take it go do some heavey squats and don't worry about syncope.

What do you mean you are going to have it checked soon? Do you realize that hypertension is deadly? You can have a very serious problem and you plan on getting it checked soon? You can have your high blood pressure put under control and still train and supplement. I see this all the time on here and I can't believe it is taken so lightly! Get the numbers, sometime the suggestions made on this thread will not work!

Hey BigSatan, I did go to the doctor and my pressure was 148 over 80 he said this was high and I should be concerned.....so he told me to hit some cardio and we'll see where it's at in 3 months

p.s. I'm 24 years old
thanks again

OK now we're getting some place. I'm surprised he didn't give you a mild diuretic like Diazide or Maxide. These are meds you only have to take for a short time. Once you get it under control the DR will take you off. If you can maintain the right pressure without the meds the treatment is done however you wil always have to keep an eye on it.
