bitch whine moan - exercises you hate?

Just back from my competition training oriented taekwondo session of the week and apart from the fact that doing legs in the gym the day before is NOT a good idea (groan, quads ached BEFORE the session, never mind now) I've realised that yes, in order to develop the kind of explosive speed I need for tournament full-contact sparring and the ability to reproduce that speed again and again within a 2X2 minute framwork means I need to do sprints.

The thing is, I HATE SPRINTS. My former coach used to make me do them once a week and they worked really well, I just hated 'em. (I'm not asking you folks for an alternative, in fact I'm pencilling a session in the park on Saturday into my diary right now, but I'm just bitching out about how much I dislike doing them lol).

So, is there any exercise that you guys do that you hate, but you know is good for achieving your goals, and so you do anyway?

Circusgirl,

Visualization is very effective in helping you perform better at a sport. I would bet that if you are really focused on how much you dread these sprints, you are really going to have a MISERABLE time doing them. Since you've determined you MUST do them anyway, why not make the most of them & try to take the focus off how much you hate them & focus on maximizing the benefit of doing them (by working as hard as you can). Just a thought. I personally would never work *quite* as hard at something I loathe as I would at something I enjoy.

Exercises I personally hate:
Ever doing more than about 12 reps in a row (of the same exercise - that doesn't count supersets)
Tricep kickbacks - no matter how much I focus, I feel it more in my front delt then my tri. So I never do them, plenty of other good tri stuff to do.

This will sound like an outright lie, but when I go to the gym, no matter the bodypart, Im salivating like a dog thinking of the workout and what I'll do! Im actually excited.
I know it'll hurt, but I cant stop myself from loving it!
This is after almost 10 years of working out, I hope I never lose that feeling...

Monster - is there ANYTHING about you that would be considered normal????? I don't much like working calves and I agree with Spats - I could go the rest of my life without long cardio sessions. But I LOVE to work chest and guess what, it shows.

anything for my calves. my hams always burn like crazy.

I"ll go after anything in the weight room. I just wish I'd get better results from chest day. But I'm still there w/ a vengeance. Now cardio.... my feet would thank me if I didnt' have to do cardio - or at least anything more than 20 minutes/day. Right now I'm up to 1 hour and 45 min/day, 6 days/ week. I think I need a new pair of shoes again

I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with pretty much every exercise. Some more than others though...and I have found that the ones I truly despise are the ones that make me stronger. The more I hate it...the more I love it and have a sense of satisfaction when I finish it.

I hated the log press so much that I thought about it constantly. With that thought...I trained it extra intense and to a point where it has become one of my favorite events.

I dislike regular standing bicep curls. Such a simple basic one, but have never liked it.

I HATE any boring cardio machine. (groan) Riding my bike hard late at night when it cool and quiet is great however!
