Birth Control

What kind of birth control do you all use when dieting for a competition and using gear? I don't really care for Depo because it makes me crazy, but what other ones do you all use?

I went off my b/c when I competed. My first two shows were tested (well, voice stress analysis... ) but I just went off. I was on Triphasal - a very low dose estrogen & progestorone pill. My ob/gyn said it was low enough that it should really have no affect on my ability to drop bodyfat.

If you intend to stay on a b/c while you are competing, you can't just pick one that is low dosed -- it still needs to work with your system -- for ex, a new ob/gyn i went to misunderstood me that i wanted to change my b/c. She put me on something else, I don't recall the brand, but I had so much trouble w/ it - break thru bleeding every 2 weeks, monster period, etc. When I realized what happened, I was like get me back to the Triphasal. I've used that stuff or similar since 1985. But when I compete, I go off. I guess when I compete, I've always manage to be between boyfriends so it wasn't a big deal to be off (only thing better than the pill is abstinance :lmao: ). Maybe I'm just that big of a bitch when I'm carb depleting....

what about orthro trycyclen low?...Im on that one right now and I've been on it for almost 3 years. I find that recently (since I started cutting) its been messing with my sex drive and mood. Or at least I think thats what it is...My doctor is 6 hours away and I already got another month of bc.....so should I finish that month or just switch now? Going off is not the greatest idea since Im in a relationship but if thats the right thing to do since I am cutting then I'll do it. Please HELP!!? :worried:

I use Yasmin and Love it...no weight gain....no bloating and has a diretic (sP) built it.....which means you would have to ask your Dr. first about potassium and sodium....but I love it

Cool! I will definately check on that. I have used the Ortho-Tricyclene Lo, but eventually got too used to it and would have trouble with my breasts being sore 3 weeks out of the month, so I got off it. I haven't been on birth control in a while cuz last year I finished up my prescription and trained for a show and never really got back on it. Now I am in a relationship and he is on test and we are both freaking hornballs :p and so I thought it would be a REALLY good idea to start out on something and cut it closer to the competition.

I was on yasmin forever and LOVED it. Like GG said, no water bloat. Still have a cycle, maybe 3 days, no cramps and I still had somewhat of a sex drive. More then I ever had on any other BC pill. Good luck!!

Just make sure you leave yourself enough time to get another pill prescribed, try it, make sure it is what you need and then assume it will take a month for your body to adjust to it. The stinker about changing scripts is that once you start something, you really need to give it a complete month. If it isn't what you need or causes breakthru bleeding, etc. its not like you can get a different script and just start takign that instead. Your body's hormone cycle is set for that month (28 days) and that's the cycle you have to work with. When you are on a tight competition schedule, you don't have a lot of spare months to mess around with.
