Indeed.

The overwhelming majority of women will find it hard to put on any more than a few pounds of lean mass without chemical "assistance."

I suspect there´s a number of folks here who think that bbers or fitness competitors just train with total "intensity" or just have great "genetics."

There´s a myth for ya.
:p

Myths and Lies I've heard;

1)That you lose everything once you go off the juice
2)That you can't overtrain if your on the juice
3)Steroids are bad for your health
4)Diet counts for 70 percent of your gains
5)That the guys in the magazines are all natural and just genetically gifted

lololol

a favorite of mine while essentially true is calories in, calories out
it'd be super cool if it were that simple but its simply not for a vast majority of people, especially the overweight
fantastic if you have a normal metabolism. Chances are someone thats genuinely overweight or obese does not.

another one of mine is "starvation mode" ...Im sorry if you're working with anything above an average bf...your body isn't using muscle first and your metabolism isn't going to get suddenly slower. This comes into play when were talking getting those last little bit off to get into low double digists for women and single digits for men, before that...cut it out
one that flies in the face of calories in and calories out..."you have to do cardio to lose weight" ..why exactly do you HAVE to do cardio if its as simple as calories in/calories out?..shouldnt you be able to just cut 500 cals a day and lift weights then?
If you like cardio..fine, If you want to do it for important health benefits, fine. If you hate it..work around it and especially don't let it be some excuse to not work out at all.

I can't stand contradictory "bro science"

I also tend to disagree with a size/strength causation. There might be a correlation in some (maybe many) instances but its not an actual causation.
crossfitters are a good example of this. I see this example daily with my husband...dude can move serious weight (how many of you can do 90lb weighted pull ups for 20? with good form) and hes a skinny dude with rather small mass.

Take an introductory science class and learn the difference between the two.

Woman and cardio to "tone up" nuf said..we all know this is bull on multiple levels.

I havent looked at a muscle mag of any kind in probably 10 years..I picked up a couple yesterday for the hell of it...I just shook my head at the sups and exercises being promoted with roided to the bejesus models and wondered how many lay people bought into this bs. I felt really kind of bad that people are going to chase that thinking they can get that big without AAS.

nice 10 yr old thread bump

You´re way off regarding the periodization "myth." How long have you been training?

Here´s a myth for you: YOU HAVE TO TRAIN TO FAILURE EVERY TIME FOR GROWTH.

Failure defined as the physical incapacity to do a single further rep of a given weight.

I can feel the backlash already...:argue:

makes sense to hit all fiber types - you'd wanna get in enough heavies first though; burning out too early in the set is likely to prevent you doing the heavy work, best save it till later perhaps

Probably one of the biggest myths involves uninformed ladies with their fear that if they lift weights, they will get big. What do you have to do or say to convince them that it's what you eat (or don't eat) that makes you grow?
Tell them the bench press lifts and firms but doesn't decrease size... they'll be on it! Haha (it actually kinda does from my understanding)
