Best Home Gyms?

My work schedule is HORRIBLE right now and I cant alway make it to the gym but I DO NOT want to miss workouts.

I have a bench and bar, heavy bag, free weight dumbells, and a REALLY BAD OLD universal gym (with pulleys and shit).

Anyways, I would like to get a NICE home gym, one that has the safety locking bench press bar so that I can push the weight higher but I then have a "spotter" so I can push the weight higher.

I still want to make it to the gym as much as possible, but some days I just cant do it.

Do you guys have any advice on GOOD worthwhile home gym setups, preferably a $1000 or less. If anyone has suggestions and links to some of the setups for me to check out, I would appriciate it!

thanks guys

just get a bowflex and it will pay for itself in saved meals. you dont have to diet when you use it but you will still look like a fitness model with only 40 minutes a day 2 days a week

Bow-flex! that's trash.. I bought my wife a PARABODY CM3 machine for about $1000 and she loves it. My teen son has recently started a program and is also using this machine.. I have a PARAMOUNT smith {gym quality} for sale if your interested..

Bro i would get some dumbbells and a power rack with a barbell. You can do pretty much everything in a power rack (bench, deads, squats, overhead presses, etc.) and you will have the dumbbells for all the dumbbell exercises.

Ok I found one of these on sale: Welcome to Impex Fitness

It should serve its purpose at home with the rest of the free weights, heavy bags, and cardio equipment that I already have. Im not using this to REPLACE the gym, but I wanted something I could use at home after or before LONG workdays, until I get a set schedule back at work.

You could get a better workout on the gym rings I recommended above. Rings will develop great shoulder strength and flexibility, not to mention back, arms, and abs. On my lazy days I do a set of squats and some ring work.

I found it on clearance at Sports Authority in my Mall, where Im a manager for Sprint.

I got it for $630, List price was supposedly $1300. I have a small basement where I have an old cheap universal, that i NEVER use, and I have a heavy bag in the basement also. Im going to get rid of the old Weider Universal and replace it with this one. Then I have a dumbells in the basement and in my bedroom, along with some of the other basics.

I have a staionary bike and a nordictrac for cardio also, I figure this will be enough for me to get workouts in when I cant make it to the gym...this way I have no excuses lol

i really like smith machines but the motion is just too restrictive--so a cage with a super solid bench. worst case you can dump the weights from an oly bar----just be ready to do some drywall work....but makes a good story.

K-mart sells these weights, and you fill them with water, will that work? LOL. Joking.... I am glad the gym is on the way home from work.

My setup was less than $500 and is plenty for a home workout. I bought a used cage and bench with an Olympic weight set. Then I found a physical therapists office that was going out of business to sell me a bunch of 45 lb plates for $9 each. Next came the heavy bag for $75 ued on craigslist. I have everything I need to do a barbell workout. With the cage I just set the bars in such a way that if I need to bail I can but it doesn't limit my range of motion. Heavy bag or running for cardio. The hardest part of the home gym for me is still finding time and not talking myself out of the workout.
