bench shirts

I am thinking of getting one because i have a very painful right shoulder due to an old injury and was thinking of getting one to help with benching. But i have a few questions hopefully someone can answer.

Do these shirts help with the building of muscle in the chest or are they more for power-lifters going for 1rm's in competition?
If the shirt pulls in towards the front, does that mean that the material of the shirt takes some of the pressure off the pec muscle thus reducing the work-load on the muscle i'd be trying to build.

i.e are they a good investment if you are training to build up your chest?

If you are looking to develop your pecs, a bench shirt is not for you. When you are benching, the pecs are most heavily involved at the bottom of the lift......its at this point that the shirt takes some of the pressure off you. It does help protect your shoulders, but it wont help your pec development....prob hinder it though :)

What is wrong with your shoulder? Have you had it checked out? Sometimes its best to just take complete rest and then build back up slowly.

It's a 4yr old injury....originally happened doing dips...medical term for it is distal clavicle osteolysis......Apparently it's fairly common in power lifters.I'm not a power-lifter though.
I have been to physios, doctors, specialists etc.I think it's best described as just damage to the shoulder joint. They seemed to favour surgery.Working the rotator cuff has greatly helped me to get a lot of strength back.
I can do most exercises without pain but have to be very careful when benching and can never go all out.Benching is the only thing that causes me discomfort, strangely enough i can do dumb-bell shoulder presses without any pain what so ever.
