I'm kinda sick(flu) right now but I still have the urge to go to the gym...what about you guys??you usually some day offs for your body to recover or just keep goin to the gym??

Depends on severity, but generally take the time off. You will only end up doing a half arsed workout which will drain you and may prolong your illness.

I hit the gym too early after convincing myself I was fully recovered from a cold (I wasn't). It REALLY messed me up and the cold got worse again, then lingered around in a half-assed state for a few weeks.

If you're in doubt, rest. Sleep, eat well and stay clean.

I always thought that going to the gym sick would take advantage of your body's repair-mechanism, since it's already in overdrive :)

Then I got older, and wiser. now I sit out until I am 100% better. the loss of a few days of training isn't terrible in the long run - but not allowing your body to heal and keeping the illness lingering is just goign to complicate thing :)

I feel for you.. when I can't train, I get antsy.. it's like I can feel my muscles shrinking 'heeeeeelp meeeeee'

:p

flu, broken leg, open wounds... i'm in there. no stopping me:alien:

I you are sick. . .stay home! There is no reason to train when your body is trying to recover. Plus, you will not be able to give 100 percent anyway. You would wear down the immune system.

And as a side note, I’m sure the others at your gym don’t want to catch flu from your puffing and panting and the equipment that you used…

dont go, when you workout your body stops trying to fight the outside germs and you get sicker, so not worth it, cuz then youll lose strength from being to sick to go to the gym. just wait it out and go back and give it 110%. sometimes after a break you will be stronger than before.

I've had an okay experience working out sick. As long as it's "above the neck" meaning like headache and maybe nasal congestion, you could probably have an okay workout. Otherwise (nausea, bronchitis, whatever) probably wait.

Side note: I actually added like 12 pounds of muscle last semester while I unknowingly had mononucleosis (mono)! In retrospect it was obvious something was wrong, but I was totally oblivious at the time. I was surprised as all heck when I finally got my blood tested, but it goes to show you what's possible.

Bro, if you are sick stay home and rest. Not only to get better quicker, but also so you don't get others sick. In a gym enviorment, it's very easy to spread germs, you don't won't to hold back others bro's, do you? I say rest up for a few days. A couple days away won't hurt you at all.
