Beer and alcohol?

I know this has probably been discussed before but what are your thoughts on beer and alcohol? Im a 22 yo college student and trying not to drink is harder than not eating considering I play rugby which revolves around drinking. Ive cut it down alot this past year cause Im trying to cut.

And while Im at it what are some good ideas on what to add to tuna?

I'm not going to lecture on alcohol... tons of threads here on EF about the topic.

Tuna: tabasco, relish... can't think of anything else. Personally I don't eat much tuna so I gave up on "dressing it up."

It doesn't matter what enviornment you may be in, it matters on what you want to dedicate yourself to acomplishing... whether it be getting trashed or getting ripped and being healthy we all make goals and achieve them one way or another :)

Read everything here on EF for motivation and inspiration.

Tuna....just get it down. I am boarder line alchy. But shit if i can go a weekend on just a couple light beers... id think anyone can. Im in college as well and am thinkin about playin rugby. Nervous about getting seriously injured and not being able to lift. Happened to a couple friends.

decisions

you have to make your own. When you are busting your ass in the gym think "Do I want to throw this effort away, or part of it, for a couple of drinks?"

When I'm about to cheat I think of all the effort I put in the gym. No way I'm shortchanging myself, think about it

Thanks, btw rugby is a badass sport its been the best 4 years of my life. Although I did tear my ACL the last game of my sr. year 4 weeks ago and now all i can do is upper body workouts with only cardio on the bike or elliptical (sp?). I wont be able to really get back into lifting untill after my surgery in a month but if I could go back and do it over again I would. You dont want to miss out on something fun in your life because your scared of getting hurt. I suggest you go for it

SUPPORT LOCAL RUGBY, SLEEP WITH A HOOKER!!!

great slogan. i love rugby too, but i broke my clavical 2 weeks into my first season in highschool. on the booze, i sware man, it makes all the difference. if i just cut out the booze i drop fat, gain muscle, and FEEL so much better. i haven't had a drink since superbowl sunday, and it's gettin easier. i actually find i have a much better time out when i'm not drinking. i'm hoping my next and LAST time drinking will be on my 21st. i just view it as something i don't need anymore, it's a weakness, and like all other weaknesses, i'm gonna destroy it and get stronger.

yea man its hard especially when everybody is goin out. Everything in Moderation...if your a normal healthy athlete its not gonna kill you...If your trying to compete im sure it cant be good. What I do is never drink During the week. Then Pick one weekend night to party but do light beer or Diet soda. It is hard

Nice read Bunny...There Is one thing I can disagree on though and It may just be me. Ive lifted the morning after drinking and SOMETIMES, Not all the Times, I actually feel stronger. Its weird. DOnt get me Wrong I always have a better workout when Im clean and not hungover but thats just my .02

just remember alcohol is about 7 calories...i'm in college too and its hard not to at times, but i notice when the intensity of my training picks up i lose the desire to go out and get plastered

:) Of course, Every 'body' is different & every reaction will not be there same.

My body use to do this when I was b/w the ages of 18-22 :) I never started getting hangovers until I was 25 either lol, AND I was a 'drinker' ... To each his/her own

*cheers*

At least try to go w/ a drink such as diet/bacardi or Vodka/tonic, beer puts on the lbs very quickly

When it comes to beer and alcohol it all depends on how serious you are. I can hit 8-9% while getting drunk twice a month (getting drunk means having about 12 drinks if you are wondering). I make sure it falls on a cheat day though, and if I plan on getting drunk I cut but the glutony during the day.

Is it ideal? Probably not.
Is it healthy? Probably not.

Have I reached my goals while doing it? Hell yeah, I just need to do an extra cardio session each week to burn off the extra calories.
Do I have fuckloads of fun on those nights? Hell yeah, I love it.
Is it one of the best mental releases out there? For me, no doubt about it.

If I ever needed to get more serious and thought about competing (which I don't ever want to do) it would be the first thing to change.

I have no problem whatsoever with drinking whel in "on" or off. I just work a little harder in the gym the next couple days..

Ha! I thought I was the only one who noticed this. There have been times where I have lifted much more and have done much better at sports the night after drinking. I THINK it happens when I drink a lot over a long period of time rather than drinking a lot in a short period. Reason: there may be a small amount of alcohol still in your system after you drink for a longer period of time and alcohol is an energizer.

I never feel stronger than when I'm drunk. I once lifted a full size couch above my head and through it out in the street when I was drunk. The next day I tried to lift the couch and could barely get it up at all. It kind of makes me want to go to the gym just once to see if I could do a pr a little intoxicated, but then I think about how I might get injured, so I never have.

BTW, has anyone tried lifting while they've been intoxicated?

I have also experienced strength increases when hungover. It is so weird. Granted, I am laying around all day, eating and drinking fluids until like 4 when I'd hit the gym, but my strength would be ridiculously higher.

Never lifted drunk though, don't plan on it either.

No .. and it's something I highly do NOT recommend for your safety as well as for the others around you :)

Im not going to lie. I have when I was like 17. Had a couple shots and was at a buddy house and just felt like lifting. I wasnt smashed but I was feeling good. Dumb...yep. Do I care..no. I wouldnt ever recomend it but it wasnt like I was having a full out workout....you couldnt if you were drunk, youd gas out. Make sure you have a spot if your dumb enough to go heavy.
